All things Shopify and commerce
Don't know where to post this so here it is. I've been using Shopify for about 6 months and here are some repeated sources of frustration for me.
- Searching your metafields sucks, for a few reasons: 1. There is no built-in metafield search, so you just have to ctrl+f. 2. The metafield list is paginated so if you ctrl+f you have to do it on mulitple pages. 3. Namespace/keys are not displayed, you can only ctrl+f by the metafield label.
- In a "Smart" Collection, you cannot mix AND and OR conditions, it has to be all one or the other. This should be super simple to implement, it just seems like an oversight.
- The sender email. You can only define one and Shopify just uses it for everything. Sending automated emails to customers, receiving contact form submissions, receiving responses to third-party app support chats, you name it. It's crazy to me how limited this is, why would a store of any meaningful size just want a single email address to use for everything?
- No regex support in Liquid, if you want to use any regex you have to do it with javascript.
- Metafields aren't searchable in the frontend search. I've found years-old threads of people asking for this. I understand that searching ALL metafields would slow down search too much, but perhaps we could define a few important metafields we want to be searchable.
- The admin panel search is generally weird and bad. For example I can go into Blog posts and search for an EXACT title of an article, and in many cases that article will show up way down the list(maybe even on page 2 or 3) instead of at the top where it should be.
- In the admin panel for products, when viewing images you can see all kinds of details about the image and do edits on it. All of that is completely absent when it comes to collection images. All you can do is change the alt text.
It looks like Shopify recently changed how webhook filters are validated, & the format is no longer accepted.
Here’s u can move forward, Double-check the topic name. Use only officially supported webhook topics from Shopify’s latest documentation. Avoid custom or deprecated filters. App-specific filters like the one u used may now be blocked. Try alternative methods, If "Forms" doesn’t offer a native webhook topic, consider pulling form data via the Admin API or using Shopify Flow as a workaround.
Let me know if you need help adjusting your webhook logic or setting up a new data capture flow. Happy to assist!
