Filtering Search Results

Good Morning,

With the release of Shopify 2.0 stores in recent months and the implementation of filtering into Shopify Itself, the platform has now eluded to the fact we have the ability to use this feature to filter Search Results without an app. 

Is this feature available to be implemented right now as it is not on Dawn template nor many of the leading 2.0 templates available right now.

And on another note is it confirmed that Metafields will become an option for this new filter menu in the future?

Filters are available in Dawn and is available in OS2.0 compatible themes that have that feature.

Be sure to check for theme updates or your themes developers docs first if you cannot find this feature in your theme.

OS2 has Metafield definitions but no clear indication of metafield support in filters

Unless I am missing something SEARCH Filters are not available in Dawn as the feature does describe. I understand they work in Collection Pages but my original post has highlighted the mention of Search Result Filtering.

Always backup themes before making changes

You may need to check for a theme update, or for Dawn try and merge in the latest git changes as it should be available, also double check theme settings.

(untested) If you need to add filtering for search to an OS2.0 theme you may just be able to use a custom liquid block|section and add the boilerplate code from the dev docs.

The simplest way is to use a filter app that supports filters on search page. One is https://apps.shopify.com/ultimate-search-and-filter-1. It can help you add different types of filters to your search page and it is fast.
