Flow? Automating Product Type into Category Metafields values with import

The category field in the CSV file from my product vendor includes metafield categories and other details that would be good to have for search forms.

(i.e. \Jewelry\Pendants and Charms\Engravable Discs\Heart Discs;\Jewelry\Pendants and Charms\Themed Charms\Hearts & Love Charms\Disc Hearts Pendants).

As the given categories are unacceptable values to import, I set the information as product type.

I hoped to use Flow to add the metaobject values with the "Update product metafield" action following import products. 

This method is problematic at best and has yet to succeed.

Is there an easier way to parse the extended category information from the vendor into metafields? 

The vendor said they cannot reformat their product export.
