I'm a UK based seller with international shipping options. Most of my items are stickers and these will usually go in a standard letter and get shipped via standard international post. I currently have two postage options for my customers: international standard (£4) and international tracked (£8).
With regards to the sticker I leave it to the customer to decide which option they want (most just choose standard at £4). However I have a couple of products that have to go large letter and this always costs more than £4 even if sent standard and not tracked. In this case, if the customer buys one of these products I need to restrict the shipping option to the international tracked only, for £8. Is there a way to do this on the product page? I can't see an option for shipping that says "always associate a certain shipping policy with this product" but there must be a way to limit the options a buyer can choose in order to make them pick a shipping option that is suitable for the product.
You could create a new shipping profile, include that product (and any others you want with that restriction), and create a rate that is only the 8 pound shipping (you can name it anything you want, and change the rate to whatever you want). Then you would remove that product from your default shipping profile.

Unfortunately, Shopify's flat-rate shipping doesn't support this feature.
The closest workaround is to set up distinct shipping profiles for various product types.
Keep in mind that if both types of products are added to the cart, the shipping rates will be combined.
Hi, thanks for the reply and the advice. When you say the shipping rates will be combined, does that mean for instance if I have £8 shipping for the large letter item and £4 for some stickers, it will charge them a total of £12 shipping for the two items?

A solution comes to my mind for this. You can hide the shipping rate when the cart contains a product that ship in large letters using a shipping customization app like ShipMagic.
Yes, you can restrict shipping options for certain products to only allow the International Tracked option using the ShipRight app. To do that, follow the below steps:
Now, when a customer buys one of these specific products, the "International Standard" option will be hidden, and they will only be able to choose the "International Tracked" option for £8. Thanks.
