All things Shopify and commerce
Hi community,
i think we have a little problem:
since arround 30 days we are getting abandoned carts from fake accounts.
How can i prevent our shop from this F***ing Sh%t?
Hi @SebastiH
First off, sorry to hear that you're having these issues. It sounds very annoying.
However, please refrain from posting customer's personal information publicly on forums like this. I know you believe they're fake details, and you may be right, but there's a chance that these could be real customers or some bad actors have used real customer's information for fake orders.
Please respect the privacy of your (potential) customers. When making fraud reports like this, I highly recommend describing the *pattern* of fraud you're seeing.
So in this case I looks like potentially bots are starting orders with a single short name and abandoning the cart.
This may be a sign that Shopify's bot protection is keeping these automated scripts from checking out - which is a good thing! Otherwise you'd have fraudulent payments, which could very well lead to chargebacks which are expensive and could also ruin your standing with your payment gateway if you have too many.
Playing the "whack a mole" game with abandoned carts is not worth your time. You can use Shopify Flow to delete them if you find a sure enough pattern, but I wouldn't recommend it. You might delete carts of other good customers by accident.
Instead, if you haven't already I highly suggest enabling manual payment capture, since there's a chance some of these bot's fake orders will get through. They might be testing stolen cards on your site. By switching to manual payment capture, even if they place the order - you still the the control to cancel it without a chargeback risk or transaction fees.
Here's how to set up manual payment capture.

Dylan, thanks for your feedback. I am very grateful for that.
do you have an idea: how can i check if these bots are coming through paid ads or not?
