All things Shopify and commerce
Hey,
I want to do a dicount code where you get a free gift when you spend a certain amount. With shopify yu always have to add the gift manual to the cart or the discount wont work. Is there a way to just type in the dicount and the free git automatically is in your cart ?
Hi @YounesTimitar,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community! I'm happy to provide some assistance with Buy X, Get Y discounts, to ensure this gets resolved.
To share some insight, Get Y or gift products will not be added automatically to the cart at checkout. This is expected behaviour, as all products must be added manually for the automatic discount or code to apply.
While I can completely understand the impact of this, I'd be happy to share these notes with our developers. We're always looking for ways to improve the platform and appreciate the feedback.
To workaround this however, you can look into the addition of an app from the Shopify App Store. There may be an app available that allows you to achieve this. For ease, I've gone ahead and made a few suggestions for you to look into:
Alternatively, you can look into hiring a Shopify Expert to help customize this feature into the shop. These are trusted third-party agencies and freelancers that work to help build your shop. For more information on this, you can check out the Expert Marketplace.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Hey Blair, Thanks for your reply!
I actually have another issue that you can maybe help me with.
So I have one product with only 0.5 g (weight) but all the time it shows for 1g. Every other product the weight is over 1g and it shows correct but only for this one its 0.5g but shows 1 g
I already asked my theme developer and they said that it has something to do with this code snippet a member of the shopify community changed for me. But they wont help me cause its not handle stuff like this.
Hi @YounesTimitar,
Thank you for the prompt response! I'd be happy to provide some assistance with this.
While I wouldn't have access to any account specific information through the Community, you can look into reverting the affected template back to its original format. Prior to making this adjustment, we always encourage you to make a duplicate of your current theme to avoid anything being lost.
Alternatively, are you able to share more information on what theme you're currently using? If it's a third-party theme, you can connect with the theme developer directly for guidance on how to make this correction.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

You have to see how this is a huge issue right? I've been going mad trying to see how I can do the same thing and it's impossible. This reply was done back in 2023 and nothing has been added or change to include this feature so I'm bringing it up again in hopes someone is listening and does something about it. I'll like to gift my VIP customers a special item that's hidden to the public and a simple solution would have been to use the code for the item to automatically be added to the cart but NOPE, we have this super odd requirement to add the item to the cart first and then add the code. Please fix this as this rule is actually kind of ridiculous.
Seriously. Not even apps have this capability. all mentioned apps in this thread and in the stores can't work with codes.
