Turns out I have been getting billed by Shopify for several months after I have deactivated my account. The fun part is, you cannot talk to a chat box person without a store. So I have resorted to voicing this issue here. The customer service set up is infuriating and it’s the reason I left Shopify to begin with. It’s inhuman and impersonal and here I am still getting billed months after deactivation. Please let me know how I can stop this recurring charge. I would also like a refund for the months I got charged without having an account but that’s probably a laughable ask. I would just like to cut ties with this stressful company.

Here’s what I’d suggest:

  • Try reaching out through alternative channels like Twitter, by tweeting at @ShopifySupport. Explain your situation clearly, including that you deactivated your account and are still being charged.
  • If that doesn’t work, consider contacting your credit card provider to dispute the charges; sometimes that can help stop further billing while you resolve the issue with Shopify.

Also, if you have any emails or transaction details, be sure to gather those as proof of deactivation and the charges.
