All things Shopify and commerce
Shopify has announced they are getting rid of the price override feature. Why? This will require my employees to pull out a calculator to ring up a customer if there is a price discrepancy. What was the purpose? It's like the Shopify POS system designers never worked in an actual retail environment before.
Completely agree with you! Another backward decision by Shopify with no consultation with actual people using the application.
We used this feature DAILY. Instead of announcing their replacement, they just announce "new functionalities coming soon".
Cannot wait for the day that a competitor knocks Shopify off it's mantle so they realise their failings and listen to their customers instead of remove required features and also fail to add ones that have been asked for years
I don't understand, Shopify. Why are you removing a core POS feature? If there is a new procedure that does the same thing it should be made available immediately. In the software development world, there's no need to remove a core feature and have the replacement "coming soon".
Agree. This is an absolutely terrible update and after I had written to Shopify directly to express my dismay, I was pleased to see that on 18 September nothing had happened. I hoped that they would leave things as they are. However this morning my app has automatically updated and the price override has gone. We use this function daily and I don´t understand why Shopify would REMOVE features. I agree it appears their developers have no idea how retail works. Anyway I am furious and this is enough of a change for me to seek an alternative POS system.
Me too. Heard much about Lightspeed?
This was incorrectly marked as an "Accepted Solution". Moderators, please review.
I JUST HAD THIS FEATURE SHUT OFF (SUNSET AS THEY PUT IT) IN THE MIDDLE OF MY DAY???? I USE THIS FEATURE DAILY AND OFTEN BECAUSE I HAVE SALE RACKS ON THE SIDEWALK WITH A SET PRICE???
I DON'T GET IT? IF IT AIN'T BROKE!!!!! WHY????? IT MAKES NO SENCE.
It's maddening! No response to the many complaints and requests to fix the problem from Shopify. The only reasonable solution that's been suggested is to switch to another POS. I hear a lot of good things about Lightspeed.
I completely agree. I wish I could make a Shopify support agent feel how I felt today trying to fiddle with the discount amount like an idiot just to get the product to the price I’m looking for (while the customer waits and waits..)
I think the uninformed developers clearly do not have any idea what it is like to use the POS app. Price override being removed makes discounting extremely hard as the tax always messes things up!
For those wanting a solution, I have several clients affected by this change and found this app https://apps.shopify.com/pos-variable-price-products to be sufficient. They have a feature in beta which can price override and so far my stores are happy
So you have to buy an app at $12/Month to replace price override? Thanks Shopify
Has shopify ever done retail? This is extremely frustrating. Has anyone used LightSpeed in the past? What are your thoughts? We are starting to do due diligence and switch POS. It feels like Shopify has no idea how to do brick and mortar POS. It would be nice if they talked to people like us who actually use it.
Wow, we just started using Shopify in late September and we were wondering why price override is not available. Bad move Shopify. Custom Sale does not work, as you cannot add an item type or category, which makes accounting a lot more difficult, and for what? What did this accomplish or simplify?
Typical Shopify! I see now in the forums they are marking things as solved, when they clearly are not. Sneaky and inappropriate. Glad I'm not a shareholder.
