All things Shopify and commerce
Hello!
My store sells planters (plant pots) and I am having trouble giving the customers the option to buy the planter with or without plates, I have to sell them separately as many customers do not need the plates or might want to buy them separately without the planter so the inventories are independent.
So far, I con only do a Product Bundle that becomes a new product in itself, but ideally in the Planter's product page, there would be a variant or a button that says "with plate", and that automatically adds the plate product to the cart or sells the bundle?
Any ideas? Thanks a lot!!!
Hi @Teofrasto use complementary products, otherwise it's an advanced theme customization or a specialized app.

If using a free app such as shopifys bundle app lower expectations as to what it can do.
Though still consider submiting a feature request to shopify support for their apps.
If a must have requirement research one of the other bundling apps to see if any have that product/variant flow as a feature or invest in theme customizations.
Also please avoid arbitrarily adding unrelated tags to a post on a forum people concerned with those topics have to deal with the noise of unrelated posts like this one. "Shop Performance" is about website speed nothing to do with business "performance", Troubleshooting is about bugs or actual issues not limitations of a feature.

Thank you so much for the reply @PaulNewton The problem with complementary products is that it won't add the correct size of plate to the correct size variant of planter, but I guess it's the best solution for now if I can't afford a specialized app.
Sorry about the tags, I am new here and don't know them yet. Will be more careful.
Hi
You can achieve this by setting an option variant of something like "include plate". Then you just need to set up the variants for each possible variation if there is already another option such as size. When you get an order you will see if the customer has purchased with or without plates. This way you can also set price for each possible combination without using discounts as some bundle apps do.
You would only need to consider using a bundle app if you want to track inventory of all the bundles and link them to the component inventory SKUs. There are 2 parts to managing inventory of bundles. The stock available of the bundles based on components and updating stock levels after a bundle sells.
Our bundle app has 2 main features that solves these issues.
1. Bundle Inventory
It lets you connect up your bundled product to components and it then updates the inventory based on the component stock level. So when a component product stock level gets updated the bundle also updates based on what can be made up along with any other bundles that also use the same component SKU.
2. Order Fulfilment
When you sell one of the bundles the stock level won't reduce automatically. What Bundleup does is update the order post purchase by replacing the order line with the component SKUs as order lines which then reduces stock of the components and that feeds into point 1 above.

Sam
Hi @Teofrasto,
I've got a straightforward solution for you using the Easify Product Options app. This app lets you add custom Plate options to your Planter products, including the choice of Plate sizes.
Here's a step-by-step guide to set it up:
Create Your Products:
Install the Easify App:
Add Planter Size Option:
Add Plate Option:
Add Plate Size Option (Conditional):
Assign Option Set:
While this might seem a bit complex, don't worry. If you ever need help, you can install the app and reach out to the Easify Team via in-app live chat. They'll be happy to assist you at any time 🤗.
Hey there!
I totally get what you're trying to do; it makes a lot of sense to let customers choose whether they want the plate with the planter, without having to create a whole separate product or mess with inventory tracking.
One solid solution would be to use a mix-and-match bundle app like Shopify product bundles. It lets you create a setup right on the product page where customers can choose optional add-ons (like your plate), and it still keeps the inventory for each item separate. So your plate and planter inventories stay accurate no double-counting or overselling.
