All things Shopify and commerce
Hello,
On my google ads > Conversions > Summary it says that page view is inactive. When I use tag assist to diagnose it cannot pickup the tag, but it was able to pickup add to cart/ checkout etc.
It's saying I need to add a tag to some part of the code, but i'm wondering if I need to because I already added a singular tag via the Google Youtube App?
Hi,
You need to use Google Tag Manager to set up Google Ads conversion tracking. The app integration method is not a good way to set up Conversion tracking for Google Ads.
You need to send page view event and Ecommerce Event - Add to Cart, Begin Checkout and Purchase events.
You have to send ecommerce data with every events according to Google Ads documentation.
I have done so many projects for my clients. If you need help let me know.

The shopify plan I am on doesn’t have the full fledged GTM.
Im just trying to do Google Ads and conversion is page view just to the home page. But I can’t get this to work. Should I just add the code snip instead to the code for the tag? (Is it just the theme.liquid?)
Not even sure why I would need to do this when it’s picking up all other pages so the tag is registering?
First,
You need to connect GTM with your website.
Paste the GTM code on the theme.liquid file.
Then you need to set up Google Tag and Conversion Linker tag for Google Ads. You can find these on Google Ads template section.
After that, you need to set up page view event goal on Google Ads conversion goal section.
Then you need to connect this goal on your website using Google Tag Manager. You will se a tag template on Google Tag Manager named as a Google Ads conversion Tracking.
It is time consuming here to see reply and responses. If you want we can talk on instantly on WhatsApp or similar apps.
No thanks, too many scammers.
Can't connect full GTM suite on this shopify plan, just basic.
Nope - confirmed this even with Shopify support.
You need shopify plus plan which includes GTM fully integrated into the store allowing for more advanced tracking, analytics and marketing capabilities, and allow for implementations of various tags etc.
You can connect GTM for every page using Custom Pixel even your checkout page.
For those wondering, I have solved this on my own. You need to add the "install code manually" snip to the relevant page you want it fired on. For me I put it in theme.liquid. There were two codes, 1 for the gtag to recognise that this page has a tag. But then you need another one for the event, which you can get from google ads as well under page view. So two code snips, both in theme.liquid, just follow the instructions on how to install on google ads. One for the gtag, then one for the event straight after it (in my case it was the pageview event).
The reason why it wasnt working is because the gtag is installed to main flows like checkout, add to cart, purchase when you connect via the Youtube Google Ads app, but for some reason it doesnt do page view and some others. So you need to manually install the tag on each page you need, with the relevent event code.
I didn't need any additional tags created in GTM or anything like this.
