Google & Youtube has an outdated video on settings, how do you set up the fields required by Google as there is no option in the products to fill them in? I got an email that the store needs improvement - product categorization. I have a category set below the product description....

Hi @ImartPL

I understand you're grappling with setting up the necessary Google fields in Shopify, especially since the available guides seem outdated. Let's break down how to configure these fields to meet Google's requirements, focusing on product categorization.

Understanding the Issue:

You've received an email indicating that your store needs improvement in product categorization. While you've set a category below the product description, it's crucial to ensure this aligns with Google's specific product category requirements.

Solution: Setting Up Google Product Categories in Shopify

To properly set up the fields required by Google, follow these steps:

1-Access the Google & YouTube App in Shopify:

  • In your Shopify admin panel, navigate to the Apps section.
  • Select the Google & YouTube app. If you haven't installed it yet, you can find it in the Shopify App Store.

2-Configure Product Feed Settings:

  • Within the app, go to the Product Feed section.
  • Here, you'll see a list of your products and their synchronization status with Google Merchant Center.

3-Edit Google Shopping Fields:

  • Select the product you want to categorize.
  • Scroll down to the Product Categorization section.
  • In the Google Product Category field, enter the most appropriate category for your product. Google has a predefined list of categories, so choose the one that best fits your product. For example, if you're selling men's running shoes, you might select "Apparel & Accessories > Shoes > Athletic Shoes."

4-Save Your Changes:

  • After setting the category, ensure you save the changes.
  • Repeat this process for each product that requires categorization.

Additional Tips:

  • Use Specific Categories: The more specific your category selection, the better. This specificity helps Google accurately display your products in relevant searches.
  • Regularly Update Categories: As you add new products or if Google's taxonomy changes, make it a habit to review and update your product categories accordingly.
  • Utilize Metafields for Custom Labels: If you need to add more detailed information, such as custom labels, you can use Shopify's metafields. To do this:
    • Go to Settings > Custom Data in your Shopify admin.
    • Click on Products, then choose Add Definition.
    • Enter the necessary details, such as:
      • Name: Custom label 0
      • Namespace and key: mm-google-shopping.custom_label_0
      • Select type: Single line text
    • Save the definition and repeat for additional custom labels as needed.

By following these steps, you should be able to set up the required Google fields in Shopify effectively. If you need any other assistance, feel free to reply, and I will try my best to help.

Best regards,

Daisy
