How can I add a $5 handling fee for pickup orders?

I want to add a $5 handling fee to the entire order.  It's a convenience fee to order the product ahead and be able to pickup the product without having to wait in line.  So, I don't want a shipping fee that charges per item, because item is not being shipped.  I just want a fee of $5 that is added to the entire order, no matter if they order 1 item or 20 items. Any idea what the best approach to this might be?

I also want to do this - a one time fee for shipping and in store pick up to cover the cost of my employee-bags-package slips-etc.

I hit a dead end unless you go with UPS - which we do not use.  If you find out anything - let me know.

Klaudia here from the Zapiet team. Our app Store Pickup + Delivery might be able to help you out with this!

From our app, we are able to add rates for each checkout method (store pickup, delivery, and shipping). You may create a rate for store pickup and name it "Handline Fee" or anything relevant. We are also able to control the rate that will show per checkout method. 

Our app's widget appears on the cart page. For example, if a customer selects store pickup, they will only see the store pickup rate. If you'd like to interact with our widget and view the rates at checkout, please visit our Demo Store!

 

Please note that to be able to use third-party app's rates, Shopify requires the carrier service API. For more on this, you may refer to this article.

Can we set your app to only add handling fees for pickup?

We already use intuitive shipping for the rest.

It is most certainly possible to configure rates for each method. And we also integrate with Intuitive Shipping. 

So you could add a "Handling Fee" for store pickup and if you offer delivery and/or shipping and would like to use the rates configured in Intuitive Shipping, you just need to paste in their API key and we'll pull the rates from them!

Hello, just saw this post and found the app called Free Mandatory Product Fees which is a free app. I find it fairly easy to setup with no coding necessary.
