All things Shopify and commerce
Although a total newbie to Shopify, I'm VERY pleased with how fast my site is progressing in such little time! But, I ran into a road block <sigh> I'm selling embroidered shirts for dog clubs. I've figured out how to add the description of the shirts, the pictures, etc but, I need to add a pdf file which shows a chart how to measure so, the customer can order the proper size. I would like to add this "measurement" file/link in the "description" field if possible. I did kinda, sorta figure out how to add the pdf file (to my files but, don't have a clue how to find it again LOL) but, when I copied the URL (?) and inserted it, it didn't work. Any help you could provide would really be appreciated!!! Thank you 🙂

Hi, Susie!
Anders from the Shopify team here. Thanks for reaching out today.
I'm glad to hear your business is doing so well in these early stages! If you're looking to add a download for a PDF sizing chart within the product description, the quickest way to get this done would be to upload the PDF to your files section (which you've done) and use the rich text editor (RTE) to link the file in the description.
First, when you upload a file to your store, a URL will be created for that product. You can find this under 'Settings > Files'. You'll want to make sure you're copying the entire link, like so:
Next, when you're editing a product's description, highlight the text you wish to add the link to, hit the 'link' button and then paste the URL under 'Link to'. Once done, you're customers will be able to view the PDF in another browser tab. That will look like this:
Since you mentioned that you've already tried this and it hasn't worked - do you mind sending me a link to the product page so I can have a look on my end?
Thanks!

Hi @SusieRoyer,
This is Zoe from EaseApps.
I understand that you've already received a solution to your problem from Shopify Staff regarding adding a PDF size chart to your product page. However, I would like to share with you another solution that might benefit your store in the long run.
Our free app, Ease Product Attachments, allows you to upload any type of file, including PDF, and associate it with specific products, collections, or your entire store.
By doing so, you'll have a dedicated section for product attachments that will make your files stand out, rather than being lost in the product description.
Additionally, the app enables you to add files to multiple products at once instead of adding a link to each item page.
We have created a demo to give you an idea of how the app works, and we believe it can help you create a better shopping experience for your customers, build trust, and increase sales.
Hope that you'll consider giving Ease Product Attachments a try in the future if you encounter similar issues. It's completely free, and we're confident that it can provide a valuable solution for your store.

How is this "Solved"?
Hello,
For some reason, that option is greyed out and I can't link any files.
Is there a setting I need to change?
Thanks!
Hi - were you ever able to get a solution to this question? It's greyed out for me too. Thank you!
Hi @Laura00,
I recommend giving the Ease Product Attachments app a try if you're having trouble adding PDF files to your product page. It's super easy to use and free! 😁
I've tried and it seems to be working. (unless I understand you wrongly)
Did you highlight the text first? My screenshot below for comparison - if no text is highlighted, the link icon will be greyed out.
