How can I add Venmo as a payment option on my checkout?

Shopify proudly communicated in 2018 that it would integrate VENMO (owned by Paypal) as a payment option, it would be a breeze.. I would like to add that option to the checkout but do not see that option. Shopify   support is non-existing so hopefully here we hope and pray for an answer!

Anybody knows more about this VENMO payment?

I've just posted a reply here to your other question. I'll summarize here as well in case anyone else is reading this thread and looking to add Venmo.

 

Venmo is available to stores in the United States who have PayPal installed. There is no additional setup required in your Shopify admin—it will appear to customers at checkout who are also in the United States and have the Venmo app installed on their device. For your reference, these two pages review the details of using PayPal and Venmo on Shopify:

Thanks for the answer, but I have Venmo installed on my phone and I do NOT see the Venmo option appear at checkout, do you?

Are you kidding me.? Please communicate within Shopify instead of letting
the customer after several days try to get another "support", my other
problem is that I can not even contact support, see community support.

I understand that you had been experiencing a looping issue when trying to contact support, as you mentioned on your other post. I posted screenshots here to help you with the process, because you explained that you were clicking on one of the suggested topics in the Help Center rather than the "Continue" button to find the contact options. Whether or not you've logged in, you should see more than just the Community option (live chat and email should also be visible, if not also callbacks).

 

Account-specific issues like this need to be addressed by authenticating your account and looking into the admin settings as well as the storefront. As I don't have access to any of that information here, you need to get in touch with our team through the Shopify Help Center.

 

You can also post a new question and include your store link to request that Community members in the United States using Venmo take a look to see if they have the payment option at checkout.

Is your store in the United States, and do you already have PayPal activated? If so, Venmo will appear as a payment option on the mobile checkout for customers who also have the latest version of the Venmo app on their device.

 

Let me know whether you meet these eligibility requirements and whether you're viewing the checkout from an Android or iOS phone.

android, my friend has an iphone and venmo and its not showing on his either. 

You want to check from your phone? Anyone see this mysterious venmo button at
www.okoliving.com Paypal is activated as you can see.

Thanks for the update! Can you confirm that you both have the latest version of the Venmo app installed on your phones? You'll also need to double check the following:

  • online purchases are enabled within the app
  • cookies are enabled on your mobile browser

For Android devices:

  • Allow Chrome to accept cookies from websites you visit. The allow cookies, go to Chrome’s Settings > Site settings > Cookies.
  • To make purchases with Venmo, you can’t use Incognito Mode in Chrome.

For iOS devices:

  • Allow Safari to accept cookies from websites you visit. To allow cookies, go to your device’s Settings > Safari > Block Cookies.
  • To make purchases with with Venmo, you need to turn off Private Browsing in Safari.

This does not appear for anyone with Venmo app in US. I've been in a loop with Shopify Plus support as well and it has not gone anywhere. It's been extremely frustrating. Shopify support has not been able to provide me with any examples of any live store checkouts where this works. This is not a real feature that works.

I understand that this has been a frustrating experience, and I appreciate that you would like to see examples of specific stores processing Venmo payments. For security reasons, we're unable to disclose which stores use Shopify, which is why we're unable to share specific examples with you. However, if any store owners here in the forums want to share their store links with you, they're of course welcome to do so.

 

Are you viewing the checkout from a mobile device that has the Venmo app installed? The option won't appear on desktop—only on mobile devices in the US with the latest version of the Venmo app. Online purchases need to be enabled within the app.

 

If all of these requirements are met and Venmo still doesn't appear on your mobile device, we'll need to continue troubleshooting with you through your existing support ticket. In the meantime, you can also refer to Venmo's troubleshooting steps: Getting Started Purchasing with Venmo Online.

Hi All, I had been researching this as well and Venmo does work on Shopify but only when you are using Safari on your iPhone.  I would assume the same for Android if using Chrome.  I have paypal express setup in my storefront.  After you press checkout you see the attached screenshot.

I have the same setup as you with all the latest versions of apps, and I still don't get the Venmo option at checkout.  I've been trying to get it to show up for over a year with no success and total lack of support for it.  I'm afraid nobody really knows why it shows up on some stores but not others in Shopify.

Our Shopify rep finally wrote back and said it's because we're using a customized checkout and Venmo payment only works with the standard Shopify checkout. We have customizations in our checkout so it seems we cannot have Venmo payment as an option or we'd have to find different solutions for the existing customizations, which will take development hours, before we can revert to the standard checkout and add Venmo payment.

Thanks for your reply. Do you have custom code, or using an App?  I have an app that shows "Often Purchased Together" suggestions in the cart.  Wondering if that is preventing it from working.  Interesting that all of the other payment options (including PayPal) show without any problems.

How were you able to achieve this design for your checkout buttons? I'd love to have a generic "Checkout button" as you do with other options below. Was it customized? Which theme are you using?
