How can I bulk change product images without disrupting CSV files?

I want to change my product pictures with higher resolution ones.

Normally my pictures are in cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2627/1376/files/ folder.

When I try to upload new pictures with same name, it does not overwrite, creates a new file with new name.

When I change the name of the photo like adding a letter to the file name, and upload to the files folder and  I try to attach this photos to the products with CSV picture does not change on the product, it still uses old picture? Can't bulk change pictures with CSV.

Any idea?

If you need to bulk change product pictures in Shopify, you have a few options depending on your specific requirements and the number of products you need to update. Here are some approaches you can consider:

  1. Manual Image Replacement:

    • Go to your Shopify admin dashboard and navigate to the "Products" section.
    • Use the product filters or search functionality to locate the products you want to update.
    • Open each product individually and upload the new image or select an existing image from your Shopify media library.
    • Save the changes for each product and repeat the process for other products.
  2. CSV Import/Export:

    • Export your product data to a CSV file by going to "Products" > "Export" in your Shopify admin.
    • Open the exported CSV file and locate the "Image Src" column.
    • Replace the existing URLs with the URLs of the new images you want to use. Ensure that the new images are hosted online and accessible via URLs.
    • Save the changes to the CSV file.
    • Import the updated CSV file back into Shopify by going to "Products" > "Import" in your Shopify admin. This will update the product images in bulk.
  3. Bulk Edit Apps:

    • Install a bulk editing app from the Shopify App Store, such as Bulk Image Edit by Hextom or Bulk Product Edit by Codeinero.
    • Use the app's interface to select the products you want to update and specify the new images you want to apply.
    • Follow the app's instructions to perform the bulk image replacement for the selected products.

Thanks for the detailed answer. But when I tried to change the picture with CSV by changing Image Src URL (both pictures are in the Shopify CDN's) picture does not change? Still old picture shows?

I am interested in the option to edit/import images via CSV Import/Export and was wondering how re-importing a .csv for already an existing product might impact the product data (i.e. historical data) since we'd be overwriting the product(?).

Hello.
Can you use the product ID to identify the images with your app? Many of my images dont have SKU or barcode ID

Hi @cbibbs

Smart Bulk Image Upload app only works with SKUs and Barcodes but you can export your products as csv from Shopify and copy your product ids and paste into SKU or barcode field. Then you can upload them into your store again, accordingly you will have products with SKUs or Barcodes as same as product ids. Accordingly, you can use Smart Bulk Image Upload app to update your images.

Please let me know if you need further assistance or have any other questions.

Best Regards,
