How can I bulk delete all product tags?

Is there a way to bulk delete all product tags since on the remove tags section when you select all products - it makes you manually select all ones you want removing? I want all my tags deleted so I can restart. If there is a way of getting around manually selecting all of them please let me know. Thank you

Hi @CozeeLiving,

It is not possible to delete all of your product tags automatically or with the click of one button, but you can bulk remove tags through the bulk actions option in your Shopify admin. I'll be happy to show you how best to do this below.

If you first head to the Products section of the admin, you can check this box to select all of the products on the page:

After checking this box, you'll then see an option to "Edit products":

Clicking here will taken you into the bulk editor. If you don't see the "Tags" column appear here by default, you can press the "Add fields" button and select the "Tags" option in the General column. Once selected, you'll then see the "Tags" column appear and list of all of the tags you have will appear next to the associated products:

It is then just a case of going through and deleting the tags for each product. While this can still be labour-intensive, using the bulk editor does mean you can make these changes all in one place rather than having to click on each product and delete each tag one-by-one. Once a tag has been removed from all products it was previously attached to, it will no longer appear as an available tag on your store.

I have had great success with this using a combo of chatgpt, google sheets and app-script. I export all products using the Shopify built in export, then upload it to google sheets, the I generate code with chatgpt and run it through the built in Appscript google sheets extension.

For example, ask chatgpt to generate code for this, "Check the column named tags, then remove all tags in that column"

I then input that into the app-script extension and run it. Super Simple. I've done way more complex things as well.
