All things Shopify and commerce
Hi, Shopify newbie but is there a way to do the above. So I can use power query etc in excel or create performance dashboards? Maybe facility to connect to Power Bi etc once Ive learnt it.
In the short term will an excel sheet thats auto updating my Shopify prod details etc...so can compare to my accountancy software where I do have the excel connector updating prod details etc...then I can look up price differential etc between each spreadsheet. This particularly useful as 2 businesses will be selling amongst themselves etc on each spreadhseet.
Is there an ODBC driver/connector etc?
Many Thanks
Gareth

Hello Gareth,
Creating a private app in Shopify is free, and you can do it with any membership tier.
Forward below information to your developer :
To create a private app in Shopify:
To connect Excel to your Shopify store using an ODBC driver, follow these steps:
ODBC drivers for Shopify, such as the Shopify ODBC Driver by CData or the Shopify Excel Add-In by Devart, may be available for a fee. You can check the pricing and terms of use for these drivers on the respective websites. There may also be free options available, but it is important to carefully review and compare the features and limitations of different ODBC drivers before making a decision.
As for Power BI, you can use it to connect to your Shopify store and create dashboards and reports by following these steps:
You can refer to the Power BI documentation and online resources for more detailed instructions and guidance on using Power BI to connect to and analyze data from your Shopify store.
Here are some resources that may be helpful for connecting Excel to your Shopify store using an ODBC driver:
Yes, it is possible to connect Excel to your Shopify store and retrieve data for analysis and reporting. One way to do this is by using the Shopify API (Application Programming Interface) and an ODBC driver.
ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) is a standard API for accessing databases. By using an ODBC driver, you can connect Excel to your Shopify store and retrieve data from it just like you would from any other database.
To get started, you will need to sign up for a Shopify account and create a private app. This will give you the necessary credentials to access your store's data through the API.
Next, you will need to download and install an ODBC driver for Shopify. There are several options available, such as the Shopify ODBC Driver by CData and the Shopify Excel Add-In by Devart.
Once you have an ODBC driver installed, you can use Excel's built-in Data Connections feature to connect to your Shopify store and retrieve data. You can then use Excel's Power Query tool or other data analysis and reporting tools to analyze and visualize the data as needed.
Alternatively, you can use a tool like Microsoft Power BI to connect to your Shopify store and create dashboards and reports. Power BI offers a wide range of visualization and analysis options
and is a powerful tool for data analysis and reporting.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions or need further assistance.
Hi SaaEnthu,
Fantastic reply thank you 👍😁. Few more questions please...
I have a Shopify account currently but not sure which tier/version as our website is not live yet (1st time shopify user) our developer has setup the website, however they have no experience of excel-shopify connections.
How do I create a private app?...is this avail with my membership tier etc? Is this free?
Are the ODBC drivers free or a 3rd party paid service? (Im guessing Devart is paid/3rd party).
I have a little experience connecting other ODBC drivers to excel...however if theres any case study links/litertaure avail connectign to Shopify?
Apologies for all the questions above....same questions for Power BI please as the excel questions above.
Many Thanks
Gareth

Hi Gareth,
really glad to help 🙂
Let me know if I can help with anything in the future.
Keep learning!
If you are not looking to build your own, I suggest looking at Airboxr (my product). Airboxr connects to Shopify, Klaviyo, ad channels, etc. to create automated reports that merchants need... and delivers those reports within spreadsheets directly. You can also run these reports on a schedule. If you can't find an automation you need, you can ping us on the in-app chat and we'll create one for you! 🙌
You need to try 3rd parties to integrate Shopify and Excell. Try Skyvia, for example.
