All things Shopify and commerce
Hello guys,
I need some advice on the sub-collections I want to create.
I have a collection for example "furniture". I want to create another collection "wood" with a specific url-address like "/collections/furniture/wood".
So, the question is: how to create it in Shopify?
Thank you.
Hey @TQH
If you create a collection called "furniture" (with the URL being "/collections/furniture") then you can just tag the respective products within it, with the product tag "Wood" and then your URL that you wanted "/collections/furniture/wood" will work.
Anything after "/furniture/" is just a tag filter for within that collection. So you wouldn't actually have to make a 2nd completely separate collection -- you can just filter the respective products (by product tags) from within that collection.
If you have a product tag that includes spaces, they'll just be replaced with dashes. For example, if you had "TV Stands" as the tag, then the URL would end up looking like this: "/collections/furniture/tv-stands".
TLDR - Format for links are like this:
"/collections/collection-name-goes-here/product-tag-goes-here/"
Here's how to add product tags to products (in case you don't know how):

Hope the above helps! 🙂
Cheers,
Stephen

Thank you for your response.
But I'm looking for a little bit different. I need to create a separate collection with the address I mentioned before because I want to create a description for that collection, and it should be displayed on that page. It's for SEO.
I hope this post is allowed - admins please remove if not
My app, SEO Manager, has the ability to control the meta information for collection tags (sub collections). Its the only app that I know that offers this - https://apps.shopify.com/seo-meta-manager
Please let me know if you have any question about it
Hey Josh,
does your plugin also allow creating custom descriptions for collection tag pages?
BTW is there any way to DM you?
You wouldn't be able to have that exact URL then.
Your other option would be to create a collection for your Wood Products, where the URL would end up being "/collections/wood" ... and then you can have your titles/descriptions for SEO purposes.
And then in the navigation of your site, you can do a dropdown menu, to show the "Wood" collection, under your "Furniture" collection.
