All things Shopify and commerce
Ahead of Christmas last year I was astonished to see that I couldn't duplicate a navigation menu and reached out to support and was told that it wasn't possible at that time.
Can you share your Shopify store URL ?
Hi @oscprofessional,
Thanks for your interest, but I don't wish to share my store url as I don't see that it is relevant to the thread and wish to have a separation between the online presence of the store and the forum.
I also need this feature of duplicate menu. I have created a main menu of all categories and i have to create again whole menu for header with limited categories and add again all the collection one by one. Really frustrating.
I also desperately need this feature - I am incredulous that it doesn't already exist as I have hours of work in creating a new menu!
Same, same same! I also need this option desperately, when switching up the menu, all current options - are as already mentioned heavily in this thread - ridiculous options , like updating the live theme without the ability to test, and/or extremely time consuming. Please fix this!!! 😵
I surprised its not a thing yet. +1 for this feature (or at least let us have access to the code part of this list so we can edit/copy paste in bulk instead of this tedious chore by clicking on menus and selecting things from dropdowns...)
Still need this feature, will it ever happen...?
Omg this has not been solved yet? I also need the same thing. It's so complicated to have a duplicate menu function? Or else just propose a way we can do so.
There's no Shopify API functionality to list/create menus, so this problem can't be solved with an app either. (Otherwise, I would build one).
The most you can do is fetch a menu by ID, read-only: https://shopify.dev/docs/api/storefront/2022-07/queries/menu
Our business is incredibly seasonal. Not having this feature is a huge pain point and a drain on my team's time and resources.
well, it would be great to have dynamic menus based on metafields and/or tags. you can do this in theme. i want clone/duplicate and import/export too. oh, and the Product default sort should be -- at the very least -- date created descending
This thing really needs to be done. Even I am having the same trouble.
Adding my vote here to this feature request after having spent an afternoon manually re-creating a complex menu in order not to have to edit it on the live site. A simple duplicate button would be an amazing addition.
I can duplicate existing navigation menus or copy your navigation menus to other stores.....for a small fee 😍
It's silly that this is not a feature. Creating a Launchpad event with a new theme needs to have new navigation.
I can help with that no problem. Drip me an email.
Seems like this is an issue that may never get solved. I'm currently having the same issues with having to recreate it for my YMM automotive site.
Same here. Tired of having to recreate new menus as I test out different formats to build out menus specifically for automotive-related setup.
Surely its a simple feature to implement and would save massive amounts of time when updating the site, what is going on Shopify people have been asking for this for years
YES! We need this as well. We have a massive dawn menu, and if something goes wrong, we cannot recover quickly. Menu duplication would be a huge WIN!
I can do this for you. Drop me a line.
I was searching for a solution as well.
I found one. Cost you about 10 bucks one time, thats it.

@PolyInfra thanks for sharing, looks a great tool.
But the Buy links is having DNS issue. I will try in couple hours / days.
Thank you.
Shopify's go to solution is, "Buy this app" or "hire that developer"
I am desperate for this feature. Seems like such a simple request given you can duplicate themes, why not also navigation!?
And 2 years later still no updates...
Shopify, is this really this complex or just overlooked like to many other features that should be STANDARD?
@Online_Seller Codelayer just released the MenuMonkey ‑ Menu Duplicator app to solve this issue.
+1 on this and +1 on still being fascinated on how long this is taking considering how basic of a feature it is and how much it is needed.
Also check out Menufy (https://getmenufy.com)
We struggled with this issue for years and decided to create Menufy to solve this for good! plus there's a free tier which should be enough for most Shopify merchants.
This also allows you to copy and paste into the default menus (main-menu) which Shopify does not allow you to delete.
Wow, looks amazing! I will test. I sent you a message on chat site to share this tool in an Brazilian Shopify Partner Group 😃
Cheers.
+1 for this suggestion.
We want to make an update to our navigation. We want to work on it over the next few days of discussions as we iterate to a new nav.
This would be so much easier if we could just duplicate and modify rather than recreate the entire thing from scratch.
I don't want to be experimenting with changes on a live site. Shopify has lots of features where we can't test before publishing to a live store, which really surprises me.
Duplicating a nav item is a very simple and basic feature that Shopify should support.
Great news, everyone: In July, you will finally be able to duplicate menus in Shopify. 😀
Shopify just announced 3 relevants APIs this week for managing menus:
Even if you're not a coder, you can probably imagine how this would make it possible to easily manage menus.
These APIs will be available in Shopify's 2024-07 API, but I'm pretty sure you can already use that app today.
Personally, I'm very busy running 1 app already, and I'm willing to bet Shopify will eventually build this into the platform themselves, so I'm not planning to build an app for this at the moment.
But this is a pretty popular thread, so I wouldn't be surprised if another developer introduced a solution within the next 90 days.
You can also just find a developer on your own to custom build an app like this for you. Also, this API doesn't seem to require Shopify Plus, so I think every store can use it.
(Though, if you want me specifically to build this, you can reply, and maybe I'll consider it.)
Best,
Tobe
I am here to say that I have the same issue and to hopefully keep momentum going on this very frustrating limitation...
you can use Matrixify app (paid app) to export "menus", then make your changes in excel and then "import" back.
Hi @onescales
Thank you for a mention.
Yes - you sure can use the Matrixify app to bulk export and import your store's Navigation Menus.
Here you can find various tutorials on how to use the Matrixify app for Shopify Navigation menu import and export (of course, you can use it also for many other use-cases by importing and exporting Navigation).
Try it out and if you have any questions or concerns along the way, let us know!
Hi @Online_Seller,
You can use the app MenuQoL for this. You can duplicate menus with it as well as hide menu items whenever you want.
Unfortunately, Shopify does not have this function. You will need to use an app for this.
I made a tutorial - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4NOzvmyICU
