How can I effectively display static variant metafields?

I have been reading about this issue, but am not convinced there is no way just to display a static variant meta field.  No matter if it is a string, integer, or any other data type, I can not get any variant meta field to display.  What am I missing?  I have attached all the different ways I am trying to accomplish this.

Never mind, have to loop through the variants.
