All things Shopify and commerce
I have a liquor store in California. New law goes into effect on 1-1-24.
I have to charge
5 cents per container under 24 oz bottles/cans
10 cents per container over 24 oz bottles / cans
25 cents per box / pouch container
Any suggestions how to accomplish efficiently or automatically?
Shopify has no concept of "fees" as a line item.
You either need to make the fee it's own product or bake it into the product price.
As it's own product it will be workarounds to ensure the "fee" item gets put in the cart, stays in the cart, goes through checkout and isn't ever refunded except when actually being redeemed.
There are apps for this researching "fee" on the app store, or advanced theme customizations.
With bundles being a native feature on shopify that may be a new approach for handling this.
If you need to do this as a theme customization then contact me by my email for services.

Did you ever find a solution? Our shop also needs to implement the CRV charge due to the new law. We installed the app called Canteen but haven't used it yet. Since the CRV only applies to the customers in CA, we're not sure how to have it only charge CA orders if people were to order online. In store, we can manually add in the CRV charge with a button.
I have no solution yet. We manually add the CRV to every transaction. Not ideal.
Right, we feel the same too. Looking into other apps to see if they work.
As of now, we can't do anything for the online orders that come through in CA.
