Hello, I want to connect my Shopify store web server to FileZilla, but I don’t know where I can find the username and password for FTP connection. I want to add a (PHP) server side script to my website.

Hi @Worldwidemedals

I understand you want to connect your Shopify store to FileZilla via FTP in order to add a PHP script on the server side. However, there are a few important points to consider:

1. Shopify is a hosted e-commerce platform and does not provide direct FTP access to its servers[1][2]. The standard way to manage your store is through the Shopify admin interface.

2. Shopify does not support uploading and executing PHP scripts on their servers[3][4]. Shopify uses a templating language called Liquid for customizing your store's theme and functionality.

3. If you need to extend Shopify's functionality, the recommended approach is to build a Shopify app using their API. You can create public or custom apps that add features to your store. These apps run on your own server and communicate with Shopify via the API.

4. There are some workarounds to import data into Shopify using FTP, such as using third-party apps like Matrixify (Excelify). But this is for importing product data, not for running server-side scripts.

My recommendation would be to re-evaluate if you really need that PHP script, and if so, look into building a proper Shopify app that provides the functionality you need while adhering to Shopify's app development guidelines. Directly modifying the server-side behavior via FTP is not possible with Shopify's hosted infrastructure.

Let me know if you have any other questions! I'd be happy to provide more guidance on working within the Shopify ecosystem.

@Worldwidemedals , Shopify is a hosted solution, and you don't have direct access to all backends. You can do the following

1. Customise your theme using liquid, HTML, CSS and JavaScript

2. Look for an app to extend the capability OR

3. Create a custom app which can be hosted on a separate server but it can access the store and does the stuff you wanted it for.
