How can I receive notifications for blog comments?

anyone know how to get blog comments to send a notification? seems like this should exist, it is so basic for a blog to have this.

seems like there used to be some apps, but none are active any longer.

I'm looking for the same thing. I just found a bunch of old comments I didn't even know I had. And the only way to respond to a comment is through my actual site, just like a customer? Is that true? So awkward and weird.
