I am having tons of problems and let downs at every turn trying to find the right solution.
Let me explain…
I am a dual citizen of both USA and France. I have been selling through social media for the past 6 years using only PayPal as a payment option. I am now located in France and have 90% of my customers based in the US. I am looking to now use a website exclusively for all my orders but here are the problems I have facing so far.
Shopify payments:
France still does not yet have Shopify Payments yet almost every surrounding country does 😡 very frustrating!
This means all shipping integrations have to be outsourced resulting in multiple monthly subscriptions for multiple carriers with a Shopify 20$ fee. unless of course you pay a higher Shopify plan. If I understood correctly.
Payments and transfers:
Currently on a basic plan, fees are as follows:
(PayPal and stripe they are quite similar)
Shopify: 2% /trans
PayPal 2.9%trans 2% hidden, 2.5% currency conversion
So without discounts or applied shipping incentives YOU ARE CHARGED 10% just to make a single transaction in USA from France with this method. Not to mention the high taxes we pay here in France 😳
I clearly understand that fees are part of the game and there’s no changing that but as for solving the conversion rate fees I came across transfer wise. Great company and I think they really have something going…… YET YOU CANT LINK A USD WISE ACCOUNT TO PAYPAL TO SAVE ON TRANSFER fees. I then reached out to Wise and asked about direct integrations and they said it’s possible…… ONLY WITH SHOPIFY PAYMENTS it seems as they are not part of the gateway options listed!!!!
I have been trying and trying to find a reasonable solution to the finances and money handling of having a website selling to the USA and Europe from France yet I beg the question wouldn’t it be better if you pay virtually the same price to tap into a huge market pool like Amazon and Etsy instead? Plus amazon has fulfillment options!
I was informed with Shopify that there is this new Shopify Markets which is virtually everything I’m struggling to accomplish yet it’s still in testing since September I believe but bottom line is THERES NO GUARANTEE OF ELIGIBILITY ONCE AVAILABLE OR WHEN IT WILL COME OUT! therefore I need a solution before I resort going down a different path as this just does not make sense.
I beg anyone even non Shopify associates to share their success ideas as I’ve already made over 20 calls and am still trying to find a solution. Help!
I’m sorry for the frustration guys but it’s been a nightmare and not only in this section of building but there’s gotta be a solution for countries without Shopify payments to be able to sell internationally at a reasonable price. I hope everyone has a great holiday season 🙂🎄
