All things Shopify and commerce
Hello All,
I am wanting to gather some data from discount codes that we have used on our store in the past.
Some of the data that I am trying to gather is when a person applied code "DISCOUNTX" - what products did they buy. I can do this at the moment if the customer only purchased one product but if the customer has purchased multiple products it shows up as N/A in the report.
I am also looking to get information on the average spend for a customer that has used "DISCOUNTX".
Can anyone please assist me and let me know if these things are possible?
Thanks

Hey, @Nic15.
Elias here with Shopify Support. That's a great question!
There are a few options to get data from discount codes for you to consider, so let's take a look at each of them.
A. You can obtain a detailed sales report under 'Analytics > Reports', then click into the Sales reports and choose Sales by discount. This report can list each of the discount codes, the number of uses, and the revenue from each code. However, to see the types of products associated with each discount code - You'll need to edit the columns and add the 'Product title'. You can also add the 'Customer name' column to get more details from your sales report.
B. You can filter your orders by searching for a specific discount code, then you can export the results onto a CSV. This way, you will have a spreadsheet of every order containing the discount code and every product purchased by the customer in their order.
C. There are also third-party apps, such as Better Reports or Easy Reports, which can generate tailored discount reports. Both of these apps have a free trial available for you to see if it's the right fit for you. If you need any assistance with these apps, you can always reach out to the developers through the contact information found in the Support section of their app's page.
I hope this provides a few options for you to explore. If you have any other questions on this topic, don't hesitate to let me know!

I am not seeing any "sales" reports in my reports section. When I click your link for the 'detailed sales report' and follow that article's link to 'sales by discount' I am served with the message "There’s no page at this address"
Does this mean I can't see any discount code reporting at this level of shopify plan?
Hey, @coreyegan.
Thank you for joining the thread.
You're absolutely right - the detailed sales report is only available on the Shopify plan or higher, as indicated on our reports guide. If you're not seeing the sales by discount report, then it's likely that you are on the Shopify Basic plan. One option for you to get a detailed sales report is by updating your plan and then downgrading the plan again once you're done with the reports, and our system would be able to pro-rate the difference for the amount of days you've used. However, it's important to note that the refund would be issued as subscription credits that can be applied to your next subscription invoice.
Alternatively, you can also consider using a third-party reporting app, such as DeepMine or Better Reports, to generate custom reports. If you need any help with any of these apps, you can always reach out to the developers directly through the contact information found in the Support section of their app pages.
I'd also recommend exploring the other features included with our plans, as you may find some value with a higher tier plan (eg. lower transaction fees, etc). Did you get a chance to explore any of our other plans?

Elias, This is clear and helpful however we are on the paid shopify plan and I do not see the "edit columns" drop down? Do you need to be on the advanced plan? It says "professional reports" should be available on our current plan?
Hey, @Wagmar.
Thank you for joining the thread!
There have been some UI/UX changes since this posting, and the "edit columns" function now appears as an icon. That being said, while you don't need to be on the Advanced Shopify plan to edit the columns, you would need to be on the Advanced Shopify plan for custom reports. Nevertheless, the Shopify plan does come with professional reports. If you'd like to learn more about the reports from different plans, then we've got a breakdown of that right over here: Reports.
I can see that you are a new member of our Shopify Community! I'd love to hear more about your experience so far and share some resources to help you get started. What kinds of products are you looking to sell? Do you have a marketing plan prepared for your store?

Why is my discount code being shown as used 25 times but in Analytics - sales by discount it shows 14 orders? Please advise.
Hey, @Kajal_J! Welcome to Shopify Community!
When you find that the number of discount code uses on the discount codes page does not match up with the Sales by discount report, it's likely because the data has not been processed yet. The Sales by discount report actually does not update data in real time. It can take 12-72 hours before sales are reflected. You can read this on our help doc on sales reports.
I hope this clarifies your concern!

How often does this report update. I ran the sales by discount report from Mar 1 - Mar 5 2024 and it is not showing my orders that have discounts on them.
Hi, @Sue_J. Thank you for providing that information for us.
The report updates every 12-72 hours. Since your report is still not showing the discounted orders, it's best to contact our support team so they can take a look at your account and investigate if needed. Please reach out to our Support team here. Write "I need support" in the chat, and follow the prompts to be connected to our support team.

Hi Elias, is there a way to see the customer name on this report - when I add the customer name column it comes up as N/A. What I am trying to do is run a report for a particular discount code which is for staff use only and need to be able to show a report that shows only staff are using the code.
Hi, @ErinU!
Did you add the 'Customer Name' column, but the information appears as N/A? Which plan are you currently on?

Hi Maz, we are on the Advanced Shopify plan. When I add the "Customer Name" on the Shopify page it shows as N/A and then if I export the report that column is just blank. I have also tried this with adding Customer Email address but the same thing happens.
Thanks for letting us know.
So it looks like the Sales by discount report displaying N/A for Customer Name and Email fields is expected to appear for orders received after January 6th 2023. Order data before this date may display Customer fields as expected. A workaround would be to add the Order name column and manually locate customer data from order.

Hi @Nic15
Claudia here from Better Reports.
Have you been able to find a solution for this with Shopify? If not, I would recommend our app Better Reports for this.
We have a built-in Sales by Discount Code report which shows you the discount code type, total orders, and total sales by discount code. The report can be filtered for different date ranges or sales channels.
We can also break it down to the order level so you can easily investigate exactly where the sales are coming from.
In addition to this, Better Reports has more than 60 built-in reports available out of the box that cover many common use-cases for merchants. You can schedule reports to run at set frequencies to your email or Google Drive or export the reports in CSV, Excel or PDF format.
I encourage you to install Better Reports and start your free 14-day trial and I'll be happy to set this up for you.
Let me know how you go, and feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.
Disclaimer: I am part of the Better Reports support team.
I have been using this report for awhile now and it works great except for it only updates every 3 days, which does not help me know how my discounts are performing on a daily basis. Are there plans to make it so this report will update daily?
