Hi @richsale

I understand that you are trying to add google analytics to your store's checkout area and are unsure how. I believe the features you are looking for are tied into the restrictions we have for Google Tag Manager. If your store is not on the Shopify Plus plan, you will not be able to use the Google analytics field to customize the checkout in any way. This is to ensure the security of the checkout experience is maintained at all times.

If you can let me know specifically what information you wanted to be able to review from the checkout itself, I can confirm if this is the case for your business. You can also review the information about setting up Google analytics in your store as well as information about the Google Tag Manager eligibility in our Help Center here:

Hi Shay,

Thanks for your reply. We are trying to set up enhanced ecommerce in Google Analytics so that we can see completed transactions in our Google Ads campaigns.

We have a basic Shopify account.

So is my understanding correct that we would have to upgrade to a Shopify Plus account to be able to see completed transactions in Analytics and Google Ads?

Thanks

Rich

Thank you for the clarification @richsale. While we support conversion tracking in a basic sense with the native support for Google Analytics, if the tracking information you are looking for requires you to install a GTAG then that will not be supported on your current plan.

As noted in our Help Center (including instructions) this is the kind of conversion tracking supported natively:

The most common kind of conversion action is tracking purchases. To track purchases so you can see how effective your ads are at generating sales on your online store, set the category to Purchase/Sale, and the value to Use different values for each conversion.

If what you are looking to do requires utilizing the Google Tag Manager specifically, that function will not be supported unless you have access to the checkout.liquid, which is only available on the Shopify PLUS plan.

Thank you,

-Shay

I have a similar problem. I am trying to configure GA on my e-commerce website tropix.store.

We are not using a GTAG, however, not revenue information is being tracked by GA. On the Google Analytics console we keep getting this notification: "Missing Ecommerce Data error - View All Web Site Data is configured for Ecommerce, but no data is flowing."

We have followed the Shopify instructions on how to set Google Analytics , we have turned on "enhanced ecommerce tracking", and we have traffic data being tracked by GA, but no sale is recorded.

Using Google Analytics debugger, I noticed that once we reach checkout, the data stops being tracked. Is there some way to track our Shopify sales on Google Analytics?

Which Google Analytics property do you have? Based on my understanding, Shopify currently only supports Universal Analytics Property for check out, not GA4. So if you have GA4, it will not be able to track sales. I am on a basic shopify plan, and have both UA and GA4. I see the sales transaction come through in UA property, but not on the GA4. If you only have GA4, you need to set up the Universal Analytics Property separately, and then add that to your store instead.

Hey, we are using the UA property not GA4.

I'm having the same issue : I'm working on a Shopify website with a Basic Shopify plan, I followed the shopify guide to add the gtag.js script (UA) and to configure Analytics, but I cannot see any ..../checkouts/.... or ..../orders/.... url on my analytics.

When I inspect my home page html, I can see my Analytics script. But I can't see this script on checkout pages...

It seems I'm having the same issue as others... Do you have any clue ?

I think I found a solution !

So my issue was that when a customer start an order (going to the checkout page), no analytics tag was on the page and all the ordering process was not tracked by Analytics.

Actually, this is a normal behavior as long as the option "Limit data collection for EU buyers is Activated" is activated. (this option is on your Online Store > Preferences > Customer Privacy)

Nonetheless, disabling this option is not a legal solution (you're not allowed to do that in EU), so you need to install a RGPD plugin, and when your customer allow cookies usage, you will be able to track it on your checkout page and so on...
