All things Shopify and commerce
We'd like to offer a lifetime discount to VIPs but in order to make that work, we need to exclude factory seconds.
How do we make a discount work for all products, and exclude two of them?
Currently, it looks like we have to update the code everytime single time we add a product to the store - is that correct?
Honestly, this NEEDS a shopify fix. They allow for so many other exceptions.... and this is the MOST logical one of all!
As a multi-product / multi-vendor retailer, THIS NEEDS a fix.
Shopify are you listening??????
no...they're not listening. 😞
Hi
if the product in two collection , it will not work
Hello Everyone,
Not sure if this question has been answered. I would like to add one solution to the list as I found it really helpful. Will appreciate it if you would have a look.
Thanks!!

So it's 2022 and Shopify still hasn't seen fit to implement a simple fix to this simple, but extremely annoying and ridiculous, problem!
Welcome to Shopify, Steve! lol
We just created a new product we want to exclude from discounts. We have thousands of active discount codes (and discount code groups) that would need to be edited to exclude the newly created collection of excluded products from discounts. This is simply too time consuming and not user friendly at all, very disappointed by Shopify on that side.
Creating an automated collection that excludes the product we don't want to discount is a workaround but it is not a long term sustainable solution.
Can anyone from Shopify answer and tell us if the ability to exclude a product/collection from discounts from their product/collection page is on the roadmap?
It's over 4 years later since this thread started, and it still doesn't seem like there is a solution for this issue. We have hundreds if not thousands of automatically generated discount codes from various apps. Up until now, we have always been fine with these discount codes working for all of our products. And if there was a product exclusion needed for a certain promotion, we built it into the discount code from the start. However, we have just added a special new product category in which case the existing discounts should not apply. But then we realized...
THERE IS NO WAY TO RETROACTIVELY/BULK CHANGE DISCOUNTS TO EXCLUDE A PRODUCT OR COLLECTION. The only way would be to individually change every single discount manually one by one. And even then, there might be some apps that control dynamically generated discounts that are not shown in the discount list and therefore would still apply when we don't want them to. Is there really still no way to exclude products from discounts? Even the apps recommended in this thread don't seem to address this seemingly basic feature. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Please note: Some commenters are missing the point. There are two different scenarios here. I am aware that if starting from scratch and there are not already hundreds of discount codes, that it is possible to use collections or other methods to build exclusions for products into a new discount code. But in our case, the discounts all already exist, and it is a new product instead that has been created that we want to exclude, when no exclusionary categories have already been built into the existing discount codes.
I completely agree. I think its ridiculous they still haven't made this an option....
This. 100%
Hi Dear
why don't you use a Discount App? in the majority of them, there is some option like this.
I recommend Discounty App on Shopify App Store. Use it and Exclude anything that you want easy and fast
The issue is that this is absolutely basic stuff that shouldn't need yet another app. For all Shopify has, there are so many basics missing that most e-com solutions include for free.
