How can you automate member and staff discounts in a POS system?

Hi, 

We are getting ready to launch a POS store onsite. 

1. We have members that receive a 10% discount on all items. How do we set that up so that our cashiers aren't manually entering 10% into the system for each member transaction (too much room for error)?
2. Our staff receive a 20% discount on almost everything, how do we set up the system to provide 20% on most items and only 10% on select items?

You can use a third-party app called Tiered Discount by AnnCode, which is compatible with Shopify POS, and use this app to create discount rules for customers, customer groups, and products. After creating the discount rules for your customers and products, your staff simply needs to add the customer when creating a sale on the Shopify POS and the discount can be automatically applied. If you need to get help with a third-party app, then the app developer is always available to assist you. Simply reach out using the contact information found at the bottom of their app's page. 

That being said, there's also loyalty programs that work with Shopify POS and they offer a variety of options to incentivize and reward your customers. However, while loyalty programs are a great way to increase conversions as well, they may be more limited when it comes to applying discount rules to customers or customer groups. 

I noticed that you're a new member of our Shopify Community! I'd love to hear more about your experience so far and share some resources to help you get started. What kinds of products are you selling? Do you have a marketing plan prepared for your store?

Thank you for your reply.  

We are a new store, selling in-store only for the foreseeable future.  We do have a marketing plan, and a built-in audience to draw from.

Getting things set up has been less user-friendly and more time-consuming than expected.  The Help Centre has link after link and often no solution at the end.  I've had some luck with user videos on YouTube.

The Shopify Help Center does have a lot of resources that can help you get started. However, I can also see how some of the resources can take you down a rabbit hole of links. Is a third party app the only solution? I don't see a way to set up an automatic discount for a tag, but you can with a discount code. Is this correct?

You can use Shopify Flow to automate some tasks, like adding customer tags. However, this feature is only available on Shopify Plus. As a result, using a third-party app like Tiered Discount by AnnCode would make this process a lot easier. Should you need to get help with a third-party app, then the app developer is always available to assist you. Simply reach out to them using the contact information found at the bottom of their app's page.
