I can't figure out how to add a unit of measurement to my products. I have sets of 5 for some products and want to show that on my store. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @Clinimed,

May I know if you need to add unit price measurement or unit for measurement?

If you want to show measurements of your products, you can choose an app with a table on your products page, such as the size chart app. You can try our app here: https://apps.shopify.com/avada-size-chart

If you want to show a price per unit for your products. You can follow these guides :

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products.

2. Click the name of the product that you want to change.

3. Click the variant you want to update.

4. Under Pricing, select Show unit price for this product.

5. In the Total measurement of the product field, enter the number of units your product has.

6. Use the Select unit dropdown menu to select the variant's unit of measurement. The type of unit you display is different depending on the type of product you are selling. For example, if the product is 2 liters of soap, then select liters.

7. In the Unit price field, enter the product's price per unit.

8. Optional: Input a number for the base unit. For example, for a product weighing 1 kg, you might select a base unit of 100 g.

9. Click Save.

I hope this answer helps.

Hi @Clinimed

If you want to add unit pricing for your product then you can follow the steps below:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products.

  2. Click the name of the product that you want to change.

  3. Click the variant you want to update.

  4. Under Pricing, select Show unit price for this product.

  5. In the Total measurement of product field, enter in the number of units your product has.

  6. Use the Select unit dropdown menu to select the variant's unit of measurement. The type of unit you display is different depending on the type of product you are selling. For example, if the product is 2 litres of soap, then select litres.

  7. In the Unit price field, enter the product's price per unit.

  8. Optional: Input a number for the base unit. For example, for a product weighing 1 kg, you might select a base unit of 100 g.

  9. Click Save.

You can also use an app that can automatically claim and verify your website that is, the Easy Google Shopping Feed app by AdNAbu, which manages your merchant center feed and other advanced features such as Multilanguage, Multicurrency, and Metafields.

You can also get in touch with our experts and request a demo.

Hope this helps.

this reply does not make sense... there is no Total measurement of product field as far as I can see... we are trying to setup our store and have same issue, how do we setup UOM, can you any help?...  we sell pipes and tubing by the foot, we need to monitor inventory, but we can only have on SKu per pipe type i.e., we can't sell 6 FT and 12FT, etc with different SKU's, they have to be same SKU, so we need Shopify to calculate price based on single SKU and multply UOM ( 2FT, 4FT, etc) X Qty orders X Unit Price... this sounds to me like a standard requirement and yet we can't seem to figure out how to setup inside Shopify... any assistance would be appreciated

Note that unit pricing is only available to stores located in Germany or France.

For your use particular use case @ChrisConradBR, you may be able to define multiple Product variants based on the size, with different prices. Shopify will accept the same SKU for multiple variants, but note as recommended here: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/details/sku that SKUs should be unique for accurate inventory tracking, specifically other systems than Shopify that you may be using might expect unique SKUs. That being said, inventory tracking within Shopify is based on product / variants, not their SKU, so it should just work.

We are in the same situation as @ChrisConradBR - we sell products like pipes, tubing, cable, etc by the foot. For example we have a coil of 500ft of cable each, and we also sell that same cable in 1 ft units, both having the same SKU/product ID. We are putting the different units under a separate variant, however Shopify does not seem able to handle this correctly. Inventory levels are incorrect. Does Shopify have an approach for customers who are not in Germany but need unit pricing (sharing same SKU) @jpduchesne

For example we have 1,540 ft of cable in stock. We sell it in units of 20ft - which would have 77 in stock, and we sell in units of 1ft - which would have 1,540 in stock. Both variants share the same stock, but the inventory levels would be represented differently. An order for 2 20ft units should change the 20ft variant inventory level to 75, and should also change the 1ft variant to 1,500 because they both share the same stock. How can Shopify handle this?

Is there any reason as to why this is only available to the European Union (thus including Germany and France) and Switzerland?

Hi @sampymishra! Just wanted to clarify for others following your helpful instructions - the "Show unit price for this product" option you mentioned is only available for Shopify stores located in the EU and Switzerland.

For @Clinimed and others outside these regions, those admin settings won't appear in your Shopify dashboard.

Alternative for stores outside EU/Switzerland: Our app Weario handles unit pricing display without regional restrictions. While it's primarily designed for fashion brands showing "per wear" pricing, the labels are fully customizable so you can display "per piece", "per set", or any unit measurement you need.

For @Clinimed's sets of 5 products:

  • Set up Product Sets with quantity 5
  • Configure custom label to show "per piece"
  • Displays the calculated per-piece price below your set price
  • Works with any theme and any currency

The advantage is you get the same unit pricing functionality without being limited by Shopify's regional restrictions.

Hope this helps clarify the options for everyone!
