I am looking at incorporating videos to my blog. Does anyone know how to do this? Also, any way to add music on the homepage?

Hey, there!

Jason here from Shopify Support.

What a great idea to boost up your blog's content! The rich text editor in Shopify admin can help you achieve this request. Remember, the file needs to be uploaded to a video streaming site such as YouTube or Vimeo first. Here's a great step by step guide on how to insert videos with the rich text editor.

There're a few ways you can add a music player to your homepage. The first method is through a music streaming service called SoundCloud. Here're the steps:

  1. Visit SoundCloud and create an account or sign in with your existing account.
  2. After you've set up your account, you can upload the music files by clicking the Upload button at the top right corner. Free SoundCloud accounts can upload up to 180 minutes of audio. If you need more time, feel free to upgrade your account accordingly. Alternatively, you can also browse through the music up there and find the ones you like.
  3. Once you've got the file ready, here's a great document on how you can pick up your audio track's HTML code from Soundcloud.
  4. After you've copied the code (it starts with <iframe...>), come over to Shopify admin > Online Store > Themes > Customize. In the theme editor, on the left-hand side panel, click on Add section.

Once in there, scroll down to the bottom and click on Custom content > Add.

Then, click on Add content > Custom HTML. You can then paste the code here.

When you're finished, remember to remove the two contents above.

  5. Don't forget to click Save at the top right corner so your work can be saved.

Just in case if you want to get the player moved towards the right side, let me know which theme you're currently using and I'd be happy to see if we can work together and achieve your goal.

If you don't want to go through the hassle of tweaking the themes, the second method is for you. Here're the apps that can help you put a music player at the homepage:

  1. Music Player by Websyms
  2. Widgetic (Audio Players)
  3. Osaria Audio Player

Feel free to try these apps out and keep the one that's best suited for your needs. Don't forget to remove the apps you don't want to keep before the trial periods end to avoid app charges.

If the two methods don't meet your goal, I recommend you to consult with Shopify Experts. The designers there will be able to create a player for you on your homepage tailoring your needs with a contracted fee.

I hope this information helps, however, should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reply back here and I'd be happy to help out!

All the best,
Jason

Thank you! I just added the music from Soundcloud but it doesn't play automatically, for some reason. It does on my laptop and desktop  and I tried different browsers and it seems to work. Though, not on my phone or iPad. I enabled automatic play before embedding the code but on my phone and iPad, I have to press play.

Hey, there!

No problem! I'm so happy it worked out.

Great question. This has to do with the code that was generated by SoundCloud. I went through all their documents but can't seem to find a solid answer. I did, however, came across a page where you can file a ticket so their support can help you out. It's this page here. Scroll down toward the bottom of the post, past the image, there's a hyperlink called File a ticket. Since your player is also built on HTML, it's worth a try to see if the support can offer some clarifications. Let me know how it goes!

Best,

Jason

When you get the embed code from Soundcloud you must click the box "enable automatic play" before copying the code.

Hi,

I hope your aware with the autoplay policy that chrome has. Anyway, you can add music to your website without an app, no subscription, no external links needed.  Check the video for more info
