This is an accepted solution.

They way that worked for me was to copy the embed code from youtube and then click on the "video" button in the shopify editor....paste it in there...and that worked

Hi, @crowshead!

Thanks for reaching out in our Community forums and for sharing your concern, I’d be happy to point you in the right direction.

In order to gain a better understanding of your query, are you able to share some additional details regarding where you would like to embed the Youtube Short clip? For instance, are you looking to have it embedded directly in the product description in your product page?

If so, here are the steps to accomplish this:

  1. Head over to Youtube and find the desired Short. If you are using Google Chrome, right click on the video and select Copy Embed Code.
  2. From there, navigate to your Shopify Admin and find the product that you would like to edit.
  3. When you get to the description, click on the Show Html button which will translate all of your text to code.
  4. Finally, paste the embedded code and click save.

If you have any other questions, feel free to follow up and let me know! Additionally, I'm always looking to help out merchants with ideas or feedback related to their stores. How is business going thus far?

Hi Mac...if I'm using a mac and can't right click on the short, how can I find the embed code? All I can find is a shareable link but this isn't useable to upload to my page. Thx!

Hi, @myth_and_stone!

Thanks for joining this thread! Great question.

Right click on a Mac functions the same way as a Windows computer. The only difference is that you will need to check your devices settings in order to learn the gesture. Here are the steps to set it up:

  1. Click on the Apple Icon on the top left hand side of your screen.
  2. From there, click on System Settings and scroll down till you find Trackpad.
  3. Then, find the Secondary click option and change it to whatever you're most comfortable with. (Click or Tap with Two Fingers is my preferred option)

Once that's done, you should be able to right click and save the embed code.

If you have any other questions, feel free to follow up and let me know! Additionally, I'm always looking to help out merchants with ideas or feedback related to their stores. How are you planning to integrate these YouTube Shorts on your site?

On a Mac Ctrl-Click is the same as right click. So, you just need to hold the control key while you click the YouTube Short and it will give you the option to copy the embed code. This works whether you are using a mouse or a trackpad

Hi Mac. I've done what you suggested and it works to include a youtube short within the product description. But do you know how to make a youtube shorts video appear with the other images? Thanks!

Hi, @CGSJ!

Thanks for joining this thread.

You can also add your Youtube Short directly to your product media instead of the description. This can be done by either using the embedded URL from the YouTube, Short, or by downloading the Short as a video file. Either way, you will need to upload it to your product page like so:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products.
  2. Click a product to see its details page.
  3. Add a video in one of the following ways:
    • Click Add and then select the file that you want to upload.
    • Click Add media from URL, and then enter the  video URL of the product hosted on YouTube.

If you do decide to use the URL, please keep in mind that you will need to head over to YouTube and find the desired Short. If you are using Google Chrome, right click on the video and select Copy Video URL.

Kindly reply back to this thread with any questions or updates and we can continue our conversation further!

Thanks for this. I've been trying to add the video from Youtube as a url, but it won't let me because it says it doesn't recognize the file name. I used to be able to do this just fine before Youtube switched to shorts. With the 'shorts' url, shopify won't let me add the url. If I choose to add the embedded url code, it only lets me add the video to the product description. I can try to save the video on my computer as an mp3 and see if it will let me add it that way, but my understanding was that all video on shopify had to be hosted elsewhere (like youtube)?

Thanks for your help

Hi again, @CGSJ!

Thanks for your response. The reason that the your are receiving the error when uploading the shorts is due to the URL being https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ instead of https://www.youtube.com/. To fix this, you will either need to remove the shorts from the URL, or head over to YouTube and right click on the video and select Copy Video URL.

If you have any other questions, feel free to follow up and let me know! Additionally, I'm always looking to help out merchants with ideas or feedback related to their stores. Have you thought about using these Shorts on another platform like TikTok? It could definitely help expand your target audience!

Thank you!

Simply removing 'shorts' from the url doesn't work. But, I was able to control click on the video to get a link that would work.

Hello @Mac Is there a way i can add my youtube channel shorts as a single row feed on my homepage

Hi, @ccherukuri!

Thanks for joining thread.

There are a few ways to implement this. My first suggestion is to browse through your theme and check if a single row section is supported. You can do this by browsing through the available sections in your theme editor. For instance, the Dawn theme offers a section called Collage which allows you to display a video on one panel, along with showcasing a specific product and collection.

You did mention that you are looking for a constantly updating feed on your homepage, so I'd suggest browsing from our list of available apps to see which one works for you. If you have any questions about the apps, or need a hand setting them up, feel free to reach out to the developers directly as they could provide some more information.

If you would like a more customized solution, I recommend speaking with Shopify Experts. This is a marketplace that connects you to professionals in a variety of fields related to your e-commerce business. Doing so will allow you to outline your exact requirements and specifications. I have decided to use the option "add media from url", and I have added the url of the Short Youtube video, and also by removing the "short" word from the url. The video does appear. However, the video is not shown in shorts format, it is shown in a traditional youtube landscape format. How do I avoid that?

So, I want to add a shot video with url from Youtube, but I want it to show it on shopify with the portrait short video format.

Thanks for your answer.

I ran into the same issue like @Robert_ did.
Is there a way to fix the aspect ratio for YouTube shorts video on the product page?

Hi, @crowshead!

Thank you for following up!

I'm glad to see that you found an alternate solution! Both methods view the Shopify editor work perfectly, it's just a matter of preference. I'd also love to know more about how you're leveraging YouTube shorts in your product description. Do you have a channel that shows a demonstration of the product?

If you have any other questions, feel free to follow up and let me know! Additionally, I'm always looking to help out merchants with ideas or feedback related to their stores. Have you thought about uploading these Shorts on a different platform like Tiktok?

Hey Mac,

How do I stop the Shopify rte inputting the iframe into <div id="player></div>. The div ignores the embed code height and width, which breaks the shorts format.

Cheers

Yes, shopify will break the vertical format...
