How do I get a site shutdown because of fraudulent activity

Hi Community,

I'm having no luck speaking to someone at Shopify, so I thought the hive mind might be able to help. I have a company that has a shopify site - https://grillwhiz.myshopify.com/pages/contact the address being used is one that I work for, and it has nothing to do with Grills as you can tell by the name.

How do I go about requesting the site to be shutdown? as I do not own the site and therefore cannot gain access to the Control Panel to do this.

Any assistance would be most welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

Update: I have been provided with a form to submit for infringement of copyright/IP.

Hello @PeevedUser

It sounds like a frustrating situation, but I'm glad to hear you have been provided with a form for infringement of copyright/IP. Here’s a step-by-step process to proceed with getting the site taken down if it violates your intellectual property or if it improperly uses your business’s address:

1. Submit a DMCA Takedown Request:

Shopify takes intellectual property infringement seriously. Since you have a form for copyright/IP infringement, complete it thoroughly. Make sure you provide:

  • Evidence of ownership of the intellectual property being infringed upon.
  • Details of how the Shopify store is infringing on your IP (using your business address or misrepresenting your brand).
  • Clear documentation to support your claim.

2. Contact Shopify Support via Their Legal Channels:

While direct customer support for issues like this might be hard to reach, Shopify has dedicated teams for legal matters. Once you submit the form, they will typically investigate and take appropriate action. If you don't hear back promptly, you may want to follow up with their legal team through email at legal@shopify.com.

3. Look into Reporting the Domain (Optional):

If the site is also using a domain that includes your business name or is somehow misleading, you can report the domain to Shopify or even the registrar for impersonation or fraud. This would help shut down the domain entirely if needed.

4. Document Everything:

Keep a record of all communications and submissions to Shopify. If the issue isn’t resolved quickly, this documentation can be useful for escalating the matter through legal avenues.

If you have submitted the form already, Shopify should respond soon and take action against the offending site if they find it violates any terms or IP laws.

Good luck, and I hope it gets resolved quickly!

Stay inspired,
Best regards,
