Hi team
we are trying to clarify a unique situation we have with refunds.
For purchases using a card (debit or credit), Shopify only allows refunds back to the original card used for purchase, what happens if that original card has been stolen and cancelled?
Since we can only refund back to the original card used for purchase, we would be refunding to a stolen/cancelled card. Will the customer still receive these funds when the old card already cancels or has been stolen?
Hey, @Victoria219.
Thank you for reaching out and posting this question.
We'd still recommend refunding to the original credit card, as the banks and credit card providers can always move the funds to the customers' newly issued credit cards. Or, if the customer has cancelled the credit card and didn't get a new one issued, then they can work with their bank on receiving their funds. If you'd like to learn more, then here's a third-party guide on "My credit card was cancelled/deactivated. What will happen to my refund?"
If you have any other questions on this topic, then don't hesitate to let us know.
