Hi Noahd,
On average, you should expect to pay somewhere in the realm of $39–$79/month for a Shopify subscription, plus:
Apps: $0–$100+ based on features
Transaction fees: ~2% if not using Shopify Payments
Shipping: TBD by carrier & volumes
Expenses will rise with your needs, but a lot of stores start lighter and grow as they go.
Hi @Noahd
Shopify Basic plan is $29/month, card rates starting at 2%, 3rd-party payment providers and apps' fees(based on functions you need), but Shopify has almost all the functions you need for an online store. You can try a shopify trial and then $1/month for the first 3 months by registering your store using the link below.
3 days trial + $1/ per month for three first months

Hello Noah @Noahd Apart from the Shopify plan or Shopify plus, every other expense varies based on your products, location, target audience, etc. budgeting wise, the most successful stores I know of usually spend on 1-3 apps monthly and then for ads on 2-4 major social media platforms. So you can consider this in your planning
Hi @Noahd ,
If you're on the Shopify, here’s a breakdown of potential costs:
To be profitable, most stores aim for at least $5K–$10K/month in sales. Your actual expenses depend on your products, marketing, and additional features needed.
Hello @Noahd,
To be honest, everything depends on the industry you are in, business model you plan to use, products you will sell and your product acquisition channels.
The easiest way to understand how Shopify works is to try it yourself. During the trial period, you'll gain some experience in setting up, managing, and estimating your potential costs based on your needs. To continue selling after the trial is over, you'll have to choose one of the subscription plans.
Best regards,
Anastasia
Approx.: Shopify Sales & Expenses
— Sales: An average Shopify store makes approximately $5,583 monthly. Small stores= $500-$1,000; top stores= $10,000+.
Expenses:
— Subscription: $29/month (Basic, annually).
— Transaction Fees: 2. 9% + $0. 30 for each sale through Shopify Payments (add 2% more if using third-party processors).
— Apps: Free – $50/month for small store level.
— Shipping: $5-$10 per package but there are opportunities for reduced rates on shipping.
— Extras: Domain (costs between $10 and $20 per year), premium themes ($150-$350 one-time payment).
Example
— Sales: Twenty orders amounting to $100 each will give a total of $2,000 monthly turnover.
— Expenses: It will cost $29 (plan) + $64 (fees) + $20 (apps) + $150 (shipping) = $263.
— Profit Before Product Costs: $1,737.
Wix vs. Shopify
Wix is cheaper at $27 monthly with no fees but it is not easily adaptable like Shopify which enhances sales potential despite being expensive.
