My store opened since February and growing steady. But there is one thing make me confuse is my "Reached Checkout" rate.
At first I think when they reach 1st checkout page, where they have to fill in their information like address, phone number, etc then it counted as "Reached Checkout".
But when I change my add to cart action to direct redirect to checkout page.
There is still drop between add to cart rate and reached checkout rate.
I wonder how "Reached checkout" get calculated in Shopify.
Kassey here from the Shopify Guru Team! The customer doesn't necessarily need to enter any details during the checkout, 'Reached Checkout' is indicated by any customers who would get to the checkout simply by clicking the 'checkout' button. Checkouts that have been abandoned and had customer details and their email address would be in your Shopify Admin> Orders> Abandoned Checkout section.
The 'Reached Checkout' figure would include any customers who have reached the page one of the checkout effectively, no customer information needs to be entered in to account for this.
I hope this helps, but if you have any further questions - be sure to reach out to Shopify support!
Hi Kassey S,
Thank you for your reply. Is that only indicated by customers who click the "Checkout" button. Or there are other ways?
Did they get indicated just by visit page
Can you provide more information about why Dat is seeing more "add to cart" than "reached checkout?" I am also seeing the same problem. My store is set up to use the permalink checkout URL, which works perfectly. So there should not be a way that the user can add an item to cart without also reaching checkout. But those two numbers are not lining up at all (see screenshot).
Checkout conversion is an important metrics and I would appreciate if you can provide some insights as to what is going on.
Maybe the customer closed the page during the delay between when the "add to cart" button was pressed and the "checkout" page loaded.
Hi Kassey ,
Thats a great reply. Thank you.
I have been through my stats and i see that :
1. 90 % of my customers that Reached Checkout Proceed to Added to Cart. So that's a 10 % Drop here. Do you have any suggestions on how to we can reduce that number ? Apps / Best Practices etc
2. Only 14 % of My customers that Added to Cart Converted to Transaction. Any advice here ?
Just wanted to reopen this thread!
We're using a direct checkout link and don't have a cart on our site. But there is a significant drop between "Added to Cart" and "Reached Checkout."
Does anyone know why this might be happening, and what the difference is when there is a direct checkout link?
Hi guys, in case any of you having this issue. I went nuts for a week straight trying to figure this out assuming there was an issue where customers were not able to reach checkout due to a large drop off in reached checkout compared to ATC. Our site also has all ATC buttons directing customers straight to checkout. We tested our own site incognito mode and tried all different scenarios and it appears like shopify only counts it as "reached checkout" if the customer plugged in their information and went to payment/shipping options. If you just get to the checkout page and leave, it would not count as "reached checkout". Hope this helps any of you or any future visitors.
We were just checking on this definition as well. Just found this article from Shopify help documents: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/reports-and-analytics/shopify-reports/report-types/behaviour-repo...
From that page, "Reached checkout" is defined as:
The total number of sessions where there was user input (for example, a key press or mouse click) during checkout.
That said, we can't tell if this includes express checkouts like PayPal express and Apple Pay. I can only assume it does.
