How to add schema markup for the breadcrumbs?

Hi) I recently added breadcrumbs to my website with the help of this article: https://help.shopify.com/en/themes/customization/navigation/add-breadcrumbs

But when I check the pages with google structured data tool (https://search.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool) it doesn`t see breadcrumbs markup.

Can anyone help me? How to markup breadcrumbs for Google?

Hi there,

If you would like to use an automated app to add Breadcrumb schema, you can use our SchemaPlus app which comes with a free trial. Once you install the app to your Shopify store, SchemaPlus will begin adding schema to your site. You'll see a status bar indicating the progress, and it will let you know when it is done.

SchemaPlus has both FAQ schema and Breadcrumbs schema along with others like Product, etc, and we continuously integrate schema changes as Google rolls out new requirements.

Hope this helps,

Baris.

Thanks Ian that is helpful.

I've added to snippets.liquid file but do I need to reference the snippet in the theme.liquid also?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Kerri,

Yes, wherever you want your breadcrumbs to display, you will need to include that snippet like this:

{% include 'breadcrumbs' %}

Ensuring you change breadcrumbs to whatever you have named the snippet.

Depending on which theme you use will change where you need to add this.

Hi,

I tried to use your code and it did make the breadcrumbs show up in the structured data tester but I got this: translation missing: en.general.breadcrumbs.home

The theme already has a breadcrumbs.liquid but it doesn't show up in google's tester.

Can your code or the code that's there already be modified to show up in the schema?

Try this: https://github.com/sampennycodes/shopifybreadcrumbs/blob/master/breadcrumbs.liquid

I've updated it to schema.org schema and fixed that error message

Let me know if it works – @Sam_Penny_ on twitter

So far this seems to work on Google's rich results test on my site https://bytesize.com.sg

Thank you sir! Haved liked your post!

People seemed to like my response so I've created a blog post with a few more details around adding Schema.org code to your shopify store. Including where to add the code and reasons to avoid an app.

Here's the blog post: https://sampenny.io/blog/schema-org-breadcrumbs-shopify-products-collections

Here's a direct link to the code:
