All things Shopify and commerce
Hello everyone,
I am going to launch an online store targeting US with 2 or more warehouses in the country. In order to let customers have more control on the shipping of their products, I would like to allow them to select the warehouse (inventory location on Shopify) they want us to ship from based on their needs for delivery charges and time.
To make it easier to understand, let's say:
Warehouse A is at Wyoming.
Warehouse B is at Virginia.
My customers wants to ship the goods to Washington. And I would like to allow my customer to choose whether us to ship from Wyoming or Virginia.
Is there an app that allows such features to happen?
Thank you in advance.
Hi @KAZEUS ,
Welcome to the community!
This is a tough find in the app store, but not impossible. You might be able to get away with using an app like Location Based Fulfillment by GhostApps then run a theme script to let the shopper add a custom line item property with the warehouse name when adding an item to cart. You can contact GhostApps for custom rule matching to use something other than shipping address to route the order to the appropriate warehouse.

Hi @KAZEUS
A potential non-app workaround could be to create "Ship From" variants for each product, with SKU's unique to each warehouse.
For example:
Product A has a SKU of 123456
You have 100 of these in Wyoming, and 75 in Virginia
Create a variant of Product A called "Ship from Wyoming", and a variant called "Ship from Virginia"
Set the SKU as 123456-W for the Wyoming variant and 123456-V for the Virginia variant.
For 123456-W set stock availability as 100 at Wyoming warehouse and 0 at Virgina warehouse
For 123456-V set stock availability as 75 at Virgina warehouse and 0 at Wyoming warehouse.
That would be an inventory nightmare and we have no idea how OP handles their inventory SKUs. The fulfilment record should reflect the selected warehouse. How that happens is up to your imagination.

The suggestion is not intended as a specific fit for OP’s store/setup. It is intended to provide an idea for allowing customers to choose the location (as OP requested) which can be massaged to fit as needed.
I’m sure OP is capable of deciding whether such a setup or something similar can work in their circumstances.
Albeit you have a creative approach with using product SKUs but Shopify already supports multi-location inventory. All one would need is an app to route orders based on attributes or line item properties. Perhaps you may want multiple fulfillment records created when an order comes in with products in each warehouse. Also what if one product is shipped before or after the other? There's a bunch of considerations to make before letting your shoppers select which warehouse to ship from.
@KAZEUS If you're still tuned in then fire an email to hello@achieveapplabs.com we would be happy to discuss a solution for you.

Please understand that I’m not trying to undermine your sale here. I do my best to help others on here without telling them to purchase something they may not need. What was requested was not ‘How can we fulfill from separate warehouses?’, it was ‘How can we allow a customer to make the choice?’
Also, as you said, Shopify supports multi location inventory. My suggestion utilizes this built in functionality, not the unique SKUs.
Separate/multiple and staggered fulfillment and shipping within a single order are all also achievable with built-in functionality.
Hello @BobsMojo !
Is your way still possible? I recently reached out to our theme publisher if we're able to allow users to select a different warehouse to fulfill.. but this is their response.. they are telling me this is a shopify limitation.. we want the option for customers to be able to select which warehouse they want to ship from..
Hello!
Did you find a solution for this? I'm also looking for the same functionality to allow users to select which warehouse they which to ship from..
