Does anyone know how to update a tracking number once one has already been entered on an order and sent to customer?
It is not uncommon for our Vendors to have typos on their tracking numbers or hold an order back, then issue a different tracking number. So we need to know how to edit or change the tracking number on an order.
Hi, @beta1963!
Julie here from Shopify Support.
You can most definitely edit the tracking number associated with an order. Once an order is fulfilled, you should see a More option on the order details page. Selecting this, you'll then see an option to Edit tracking, which will allow you to edit the tracking number. Here's what this looks like:
To make sure that customers receive the updated number, you'll also need to ensure that you have selected Send notification email to customer. Here's what editing the tracking number and sending the update to your customer should look like:
It's also worth noting that once the tracking number has been updated, this will reflect on the order status page, where your customers can check the status of their order and see real-time updates on the location of their shipment.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you are stuck on any of the above steps. I'd be happy to offer further guidance.

I don't see that option on any of my shipments that I have sent USPS. Is there a setting that would disable that option? I only see Track Shipment, Print Packing Slip, Schedule Pickup, Download Label, and Void Label when I click on More.
Hey, @Camille_Board! Thanks for joining in on the conversation.
Did you use Shopify Shipping to fulfill the orders that were sent via USPS? If you purchased a shipping label with a tracking number through Shopify Shipping, then the tracking number is added to the order automatically and is associated with the label you had purchased. Because of this, I'm afraid it cannot be updated.
May I ask why you are needing to update this tracking number?

I have a similar issue in that Spocket has the correct tracking number, but incorrect shipping method listed. It shows the tracking number as being for USPS when it was actually through FedEx, and because of this, the delivery confirmation email hasn't been sent, and the order doesn't show as being delivered, even though it was. I've contacted Spocket but have yet to hear back. Is there anything that can be done on Shopify's end?
For anyone having trouble with editing the tracking number, or shipping method, that is using Spocket (or another fulfillment app), I had this same issue and was told the information could not be edited or updated even after adjustment on Spocket's end. However, I found a solution that was extremely simple and worked right away.
The option to edit tracking will not appear on the desktop browser if the shipping info was sent/synced to Shopify by your fulfillment app/company (i.e. Spocket), but this is what worked for me. It also updated on my browser after the following steps were completed:
Download the Shopify App (I use the iOS app).
Go to your orders, and click the order which needs the change.
Click the three dots (...) next to "Fulfilled by (Spocket)"
And click "Edit Tracking"
I don't know why this is blocked for Spocket fulfilled orders on the browser or why it is available through the app, but it appears to be the only workaround right now. Good luck all!
Hey, @kazamimi!
Thanks for joining in on the conversation.
I appreciate you contacting the Spocket developers about this; when it comes to third-party apps, the developers themselves are the best point of contact for support. I also really appreciate you following up again to share the workaround that you discovered.
While you should be able to edit tracking in both the Shopify mobile app and the browser version after an order is fulfilled, there may be a limitation on Spocket's end that prevents this from happening on the desktop version.
If you notice this issue happen again and you are unable to edit the tracking information on the desktop version, please let us know. Our Support team would be happy to take a look and determine if this is something that can be resolved on our end or a limitation with the Spocket app.
Thanks again for sharing your workaround!

I'm having the same problem. USPS lost the order so I need to update the tracking with a new tracking number.
I'm using the desktop Shopify webpage and purchasing postage through stamps.com which auto uploads the tracking numbers to Shopify. . Next to the Fulfilled (1) USPS tracking number it say's confirmed. There is no option under MORE ACTIONS to edit the tracking. (No options on the mobile version either.) I feel that this should be a possibility.
