How to convert wordpress blog to shopify without losing SEO

Hello,

I want to move to shopify but i am afraid i would lose my SEO work.

Here is what i want.

1- I have started an informational blog on Sports League. I started it as an informational blog intentionally to gain some traffic. It is working great until i think about converting it to shop.

Woocommerce is amazing but i found most of the great things are paid and you have to fiddle around with lots of settings.

2- I want to convert it to shopify and want the url structure same. Like www.t20slam.com/vivo-ipl-2020 have to the same url when it load from shopify. I haven't setup a shop page but thinking about keeping it www.t20slam.com/shop way.

3- I will use 2checkout as my payment processor. I hope shopify will support it.

4- woocommerce has an option to auto manage stock. Like if someone buy sports jersey it should be deducted from set quantity.

But most importantly i am worried about the SEO authority which is so hard to get back if something went wrong.

Appreciate your help.

Thank You

Hi @NamaRawras

One option that might work is to just use the Shopify Lite plan and use the buy button channel. This way you can keep your original site and insert the buy buttons for your products, and Shopify would still manage your inventory and provide the checkout funnel.

You can read more about it here: https://www.shopify.com/buy-button

Hi. Thank you for replying. Do i still need woocommerce on wordpress to make the shopify buy button work?

Thanks

No you would not want both. If you use Woo for your ecommerce, then you would keep it. But if you're going with Shopify, then you will not want to keep the Woo plugin installed. There is also a Shopify plugin for Wordpress, WP Shopify (similar to the Woo plugin) with its own themes, etc. that utilizes the Shopify buy button and automatically installs your products to your Wordpress site. I don't have any experience with this plug in so I can't offer any advice or pros vs. cons with regard to its performance. I am also not familiar with the Woo/Wordpress integration, so I'm not sure how removing it will affect your site if you already have it installed.

That's kind of confusing for me. I think i have to wait and learn shopify maybe buy some training courses before blindly diving into practical. Thanks for you help. 🙂

Completely understandable, and yes, definitely do some research before diving in.

Woocommerce and Shopify are essentially two different models of the same kind of product. They are both ecommerce sites that allow you to set up products and have customers purchase those products through an online checkout system.

So when you ask if you would need to keep Woocommerce on your Wordpress site in order to use Shopify, its kind of like saying "Do I need to keep my Ford car in my garage in order to park my Honda in there?" (when you only have a one-car garage).  Your Wordpress site is your garage, and either Shopify or Woocommerce will be the vehicle you use to park your products in it.

That's very fun way to explain things 😄 I think i got the idea.

Thanks. Appreciate your time.

Converting a WordPress blog to Shopify can be a challenging process, especially if you want to maintain your SEO rankings. However, with the right approach, it is possible to migrate your blog to Shopify without losing your hard-earned SEO value. Here's how you can do it:

  1. Export your WordPress content First, you need to export your WordPress blog content, including your posts, pages, images, and other media files. You can do this by using the built-in export tool in WordPress, which allows you to download an XML file of your blog content.

  2. Import your WordPress content to Shopify Next, you need to import your WordPress content to Shopify. Shopify has a built-in import tool that allows you to upload your XML file and import your WordPress content, including all your blog posts and images.

  3. Set up your Shopify blog Once your WordPress content is imported, you need to set up your Shopify blog. You can create a new blog in Shopify and then manually add your blog posts and pages. Alternatively, you can use a third-party app to automate the process.

  4. Set up 301 redirects To avoid losing your SEO rankings, you need to set up 301 redirects from your old WordPress URLs to your new Shopify URLs. You can do this using Shopify's built-in URL redirects tool or by using a third-party app.

  5. Optimize your Shopify blog for SEO Finally, you need to optimize your Shopify blog for SEO. This includes optimizing your page titles, meta descriptions, headings, and images. You can also add relevant keywords to your content and optimize your URLs for readability and relevance. get learn seo

@w3beginners1  Regarding number 2. in your reply. I've searched the Admin UI and KB...but for the life of me I can't find where the native XML importer resides to import my WP XML files. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks.
