How to create and price multipacks using variants without affecting main product?

How to create and price multipacks using variants without affecting main product?

Hello-

I've seen a similar question asked before but I'm not fully understanding the solution. I'm trying to avoid a bundling app which appears to be very costly given my low sales at the moment and just use backend variants to create a MULTIPACK. My product is very simple as it's a one-size underwear and each of the colorways are on different product pages. So I'm just looking to create a 3-pack and 5-pack option of the same product (not mixed bundles of colors). (I am happy to setup and/or adjust my inventory manually as I know it's not possible to have the inventory from a multipack to go off the main product.) Few questions in addition:
- How do I do this so it doesn't adjust the price of the main product? (This is an area I am having trouble with)
- Am I able to adjust the price of the multipacks so the customer is offered cost savings?
- Am I able to move the multipack to the right of the quantity picker?
Thanks!

Hey, @BonksUSA

Great question. Without the use of a bundling app/custom-coded solution, it wouldn't be possible to merge several 'parent' products into one bundled product and not adjust the price of those parent products. Essentially, you would need to create a new bundled pack product and set its unique price, and then do that for each variation of the bundle. Ex. Bundle product consisting of Product 1a, and 2a. Another bundle product consists of product 1a, and 2b, etc.

With that said, there are some affordable bundling apps out there. Specifically Fast Bundle. They offer their app for free for the first 300 bundle shows and then is $11.99/mo. This would allow you to use the app for free until you gain some traction with yourstore.

If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

Thanks for your quick reply! To clarify, at the moment, I don't care to mix and match anything. I just want to provide a "3-pack" of the same product. For example, I have a tropical print underwear and would like to create a variant/button to buy 3 tropical. (Yes, the customer can simply use the quantity picker to up the quantity but the "3-pack button" creates a quicker, more palatable option.) Does that alter your solution at all?

Hi

All you need to do is turn your main product into one with variations. Then set your option to pack size and have variations for example:

Pack size: 1

Pack size: 3

Pack size: 5

Ideally you would map the 3 and 5 packs to your main single product like:

Pack size: 1 (SKU: ABC)

Pack size: 3 (SKU: ABC x 3)

Pack size: 5 (SKU: ABC x 5)

If you are going to manage inventory yourself this should be sufficient but in future if you want to automate it a bundle app will help.

Our bundle app will let you connect up all your products to correct SKUs and we then update their inventory based on the component stock level. So in above example both products would update if product ABC changes.

We also have the additional option of unbundling orders made for a bundled product into the component SKUs post purchase. This way the order lines are only for components and can be fulfilled as per normal.

Regards

Tom

Thanks for your thorough response. I'll take a look at your method as well as your bundle app. Many thanks.

Hi @BonksUSA

This is Jun from Bundle Kit

You would need to create separate bundle products for your 3-pack and 5-pack underwear so that you can set the price of the 3-pack and 5-pack accordingly and each time a 3-pack/5-pack is sold, you would need to adjust the inventory accordingly.

In any case you might want a bundle to adjust the inventory for you automatically in the future, you might want to try our app. The pricing per month is dependent on how many total orders (not just bundle orders) you are receiving per month. We have Growth 1 Plan which is $0/month for up to 50 total orders per month and if you exceed 50 orders within a particular billing cycle, you will be bumped to Growth 2 Plan (or a different plan depending on the volume of orders). There could also be some months where you won't be paying for anything if you are on the Growth 1 Plan for those particular months. You can learn more about our pricing here: https://bundlekit.io/pricing

Our app is great for start-up businesses like yours.

Similar question. In short, I'd like to create a multipack version of my product and link this to a subscription plan e.g., quarterly subscription (3x units delivered on a quarterly basis). Is this easily doable or not? The key nuance is that I want everything to be retained on the same main product page (i.e., click one-time purchase = buy 1 unit no subscription, click monthly plan = 1 unit delivered on monthly basis, click quarterly plan = 3 units delivered on a quarterly basis). Let me know if any questions and/or more clarification is required.
