All things Shopify and commerce
Dear Community,
I am currently facing an issue when bulk-uploading my products using a CSV file, as a variant is created automatically for each new product in my shop. The challenge arises when I need to enter or edit the barcodes for the Products, as I have to manually remove each variant from every product. Consequently, with 150 products, this process becomes time-consuming. Is there a method within the upload-CSV file to prevent the creation of variants for each product? Alternatively, are there any other approaches or tools within the Shopify web app that would allow me to efficiently bulk delete variants across different products?
Thank you for your assistance.
You cannot do this natively in Shopify. I recommend you the app that I have used in past. Works well. Please have a look.

I apologize for any confusion in my previous explanation. We employ Matrixify to upload our products with a CSV. Could you please specify which cell in the CSV I need to focus on to ensure that Shopify does not add any variants to the uploaded Products? With the multitude of metafields and stuff involved, your guidance will be greatly appreciated 😄
What I usually do is export the CSV as it is, and then delete the variants from admin panel normally and export the CSV again. This way I can compare the before and after CSV. And then go ahead an make necessary to the CSV as per the 2nd CSV. 😄 Hope that helps!
I think i understand the point. I will try and will report if it worked out for me or not 🙂
No problem. Good luck!
So i exported one with a variant and one without using matrixify but both was the same in the CSV.
One way to quickly delete the variants would be to use our Ablestar Bulk Product Editor. With the app you can search for the products you want to modify and then select 'Delete Variants' as the field to edit:
A few things to keep in mind when deleting variants:
The app has a 7-day free trial (with unlimited edits) and deleting the variants should just take a couple minutes. If you run into any questions feel free to reach out.

Daniel
But can you do this with all Products listed at the same time?
Yes, when you open up the app you'll see a list of all your products. You can filter this list if you only want to edit some products. Then you click on Edit Products at the top:
One the next screen you configure how you want to modify your products. In your case you can click on the 'Field to Edit' button and choose 'Delete Variants' from the options:
The click on the Delete Variants button on the top of the page and the app will remove the variants for all the products you filtered for:
As I mentioned before, this is a permanent thing (whereas almost every other edit can be undone) so I would test this on one product first to make sure it works as expected. To do that, you would filter for a single product on the first screen and then follow the rest of the steps.
I hope this helps and happy to answer any follow up questions.
Best,
Daniel
