Re: Units of Measurement / Selling fractions

How to efficiently sell wine in fractions on a POS system?

We are a wine and spirits retailer who will soon be opening a bar in our shop so that customers can buy wine by the glass.

I am trying to figure out the most efficient way to do this on our POS.

We need to be able to sell wine bottles in varying fractions as shown below:

1 bottle= 1 unit

250ml glass= 1/3 of a unit

125ml glass= 1/6 of a unit

I have seen apps that allow you to sell in fractions but they divide the price according to the fraction. So if a bottle cost £10 then a 125ml glass or 1/6 of a unit would be £1.66. The problem with this for us is that we need to dictate the prices of glasses differently to the price of a bottle.

In an ideal world we need to be able to set variants or buttons on the POS that have there own set prices and pull out a fraction of the stock.

It's complicated but surely possible.
Any and all advice will be greatly apreciated.

Hi @LatitudeWine,

I would recommend to add a variant and its set price to the product. E.g. Add this as variants 1 bottle, 250ml, 125ml, and set each prices.

But doesn't this fail to deduct fractional inventory?

It will fail unfortunately, unless you try to calculate the stocks before hand.

E.g. If I have 10 bottles of wine, then I would create variant like this with the said stocks, assuming in 1 bottle there is 750 ml.

1 bottle = 8 stocks

250ml glass = 3 stocks (1 bottle)

125ml glass= 6 stocks (1 bottle)

Total of 10 bottles
