How to fix domain settings after moving hosting to a new provider?

I moved my hosting to shopify last week. Now my www website does not work. The direct site does.
I see a notice regarding issues but am not sure how to access the domain settings to fix this. With my old domain host I could have fixed it but again I’m not sure how to access this with Shopify hosting the domain.

  • Error fetching domain CAA record: Open your domain provider's DNS settings for www.approachrc.com and check that the record is set correctly. Note that record updates can take up to 48 hours to come into effect.
  • Error fetching domain CNAME record: Open your domain provider's DNS settings for www.approachrc.com and check that the record is set to shops.myshopify.com. Note that record updates can take up to 48 hours to come into effect.
  • Error fetching domain nameserver record: Open your domain provider's DNS settings for www.approachrc.com and check that the record is set correctly. Note that record updates can take up to 48 hours to come into effect.

This is an accepted solution.

Problem solved. I reset my DNS in the Shopify domain settings then added the www. CName record. That fixed it.
All done within Shopify. Just had to find the DNS settings.

Hi there,

If "approachrc.com" is the real domain in question, then it's currently using Squarespace/Google Domains DNS nameservers

To confirm this info/ DNS hosting location:

  1. Visit https://domains.google.com/
  2. Click "DNS" on the left-hand side
  3. The section under the Squarespace announcement should look as following
    MZ2_1-1708385906394.png

If "Custom name servers" is blue, then the rest of the instructions is not going to work.  If the section does look like the image above, read on.

Disclaimer: this is a "blind" suggestion and relies on you to correctly confirm, review, and implement everything.  At your own risk, in other words.  The good news is that all of this is reversible.

To permanently redirect both the "http" and "https" of your "naked" domain (approachrc.com) to "https://www.approachrc.com"

  1. Visit https://domains.google.com/
  2. Click "Manage" to the right of the "approachrc.com" line
  3. In the "Website" section, choose "Forward to an existing webpage" option (click "Forward Domain")
  4. Click "Edit", leave the first "Domain or Subdomain" line blank, delete the 2nd "www" line
  5. Enter "https://www.approachrc.com" in the "Forward To" field
  6. Click "Advanced options" to expand it
    1. In "REDIRECT TYPE", choose "Permanent redirect (301)"
    2. In "PATH FORWARDING", choose "Do Not Forward" (that's the default)
    3. In "FORWARDING OVER SSL", choose "SSL On"
  7. Click "FORWARD" which will safe the settings

To add the CNAME records

  1. Visit https://domains.google.com/
  2. Click "Manage" to the right of the "approachrc.com" line
  3. Click "DNS" on the left
  4. If you see the button "Manage custom settings", click it.  Otherwise you should see the fields below

  5. For "Host Name", enter "www"

  6.

    For "Type" choose "CNAME"
  7. For "TTL", leave the value as is (should be 3600)
  8. For "DATA", enter "shops.myshopify.com"
  9. Click "SAVE"

These change may take up to 48 hours though it's likely to happen much faster.  The "CAA" error usually disappears once the other settings propagate but there's no way to know until that happens.  Come back to let us know how things go
