Hi,
I am trying to add product variants to the Google Merchant feed with the Google app in Shopify. Everything works well, all products accepted, except value for size & color is missing.
These are apparel products and there's a lot of product variations in a different color & size. I have item_group_ids and all seems well, just for some reason the feed doesn't pull the color & size for each particular variant. If I add color/size for the main product, then it appears for all variants as well (which of course is wrong). If this data is missing also for the main product - they items are showing errors.
I tried many different adjustments, but nothing works. My question is where else I can possible check - product variants metafields, format of SKUs? What ca be the possible reason why the app doesn't pull size/color on a variant level.
I hope you can help me. Thank you very much!
Best,
Ani
You usually add the colors and size at the variant level as a variant option. If you named it something else, it will not be pulled.
As an alternative, you can manually add the data: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNwg9-4-eGg
Or using a supplemente feed: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/7439058?hl=en
You could also remap it using a tool such as: https://apps.shopify.com/multiple-google-shopping-feeds
Hi Emmanuel,
Thanks for the suggestions and the links! What do you mean by "If you named it something else, it will not be pulled."
What should it be called? There's colour and size data for each variant, that's why it's weird it's not being pulled.
Thanks!
Ani
If the naming convention is colour and size, then that is correct. The app you are using is very bugged and it happens a lot that things don't work.
I also have a question about this and would be greatful if anyone has the answer.
We are UK based and as such use the spelling COLOUR for the variant, not COLOR as is the Shopify default. Does anyone know if this will affect our feed or does Google accept both COLOR and COLOUR as the colour description?
Should we be using the US spelling on our website despite being solely UK sellers and selling to only UK residents? I would've though this would look a little odd and unprofessional, and may cause customers to question our regionality?
You can check your question by going to Google Merchant Center > products > all products > click on a product > scroll to the bottom and view the final attributes.
If you see the color values, then all is good.
If you don't then feed solution such as: https://apps.shopify.com/multiple-google-shopping-feeds
Can pull both color or colour attributes by default.
So no need to change the spelling. And sidenote, incorrect grammar, may cause an account suspension. So best that you keep your grammar UK.
Many thanks, after checking some products in the Merchant Center the colours are there correctly!
Could someone please help me find a solution? I'm experiencing an issue with Shopify and The Google Sales Channel app, which is necessary for linking products to Google Search and other Google services. I'm unsure of who to contact at Google for assistance with this issue. If anyone has already found a solution, please share it here for everyone's benefit.
It seems to me, that you have to manually toggle the options on. Which is a bit strange as I thought it would auto pre select based on your variant data.
An alternative is to use: https://apps.shopify.com/multiple-google-shopping-feeds
Which allows you to use rules, for example, if title contains 4xl, set size to 4xl
You can also use multi extract rules within one rule.
It seems that loads of people are having the same issue with the google & youtube channel not doing what it is suppose to regarding colour and size and we shouldn't have to pay for an additional app. Where exactly do you need to toggle the option on please ?
When you edit the product details as shown in the images from @Brett21
Brett21. Did you get an actual fix for this? I am having the same problem. I have to fix every single product after I know I have it in the Shopify Variants selected correctly, which is double the work.
and we should not have to purchase an additional APP for the conversion to transfer over correctly
