How to organise stock?

Hi all,

Getting on great with Shopify....there are a few things that we need to work out though just to streamline things especially as we gear up for Christmas!

So we have a mezzanine with stock racking. We have quite a large variety of product and quite a few overlaps when it comes to categorising things.

What I feel I've seen many years ago but for the life of me cannot seem to find anymore is a way of managing the location of stock within the stock room.

The actual Shopify stock system works fine for quantities and supplies on the way to us etc but what we could really do with is something that will tell us what rack a product is on and where on that rack. 

Customer has ordered this component, on the packing sheet or the pick list it would say what rack, shelf, zone etc.... to go grab it from.

Does anyone have any suggestions that might help us?

Looking at meta fields in the settings on the store...is this the sort of place where I could do a meta field for rack and shelf etc
