How to prevent phone auto-fill when adding new shipping address?

Hi there~ On my Narrative themed store when a customer who has previously shopped via Shop goes through my checkout and wants to add a new Shipping address (i.e. to send a cake to a different person), the Purchaser's phone number auto-populates in the phone field. This is a recurring problem because my business model requires the Recipient's phone number for delivery, not the Purchaser's. This is a non-negotiable facet of my business since I only deliver perishable products (cakes) and they can't be left at the door -- as a result I must make phone/text contact with the Recipient (not the Purchaser). Because the Add Address option auto-populates with the purchaser's phone number, 50% of my orders contain the incorrect phone number and I can't attempt delivery. 

 

How do I prevent Shopify from Auto-Filling the phone number on a new address? Preference is to have it be blank and mandatory.

How do I change the placeholder language for that specific field? (It is not listed in the typical place where other placeholder text is editable)

How do I change the More Info question mark icon text? Again not editable in the standard place and the standard help text is incorrect and misleading in this context.

 

I have screen shots but it's only allowing CSV files to be uploaded here???

Can you provide more details? I believe it is possible to avoid autofilling details, especially from the browser end. If Shopify is directly adding the phone number to a new address (without saving), then we need to check this further.

 

Where do your customers enter these details? Is it on the cart page or the checkout page?

Thanks for the reply. They enter the shipping info on the Checkout page, not the shopping cart.

The only reason I do hope that it's a Shopify issue rather than a browser issue is about actually having a chance to correct it.

In Shopify, you can go to settings - checkout, scroll down to address collection preferences. Click on the checkout and account editor and uncheck the checkbox.

2. However, some browsers also enable the autofill fields. So perhaps you could check your local browser's configuration.

Thanks Eric. I do need Shopify's address auto-completion since many of my customers previously would enter an incorrect address which took lots of time to problem solve on my end. I have the shipping address phone number checked as Required, but this doesn't stop the auto filling of the previous (and incorrect) phone number.
