How to Restrict Staff Permissions to Only Blog Management?

Hello Shopify Community,

I’m currently managing a Shopify store and would like to assign a staff member to only create and edit blog articles, without giving them access to other parts of the store (like pages, products, or theme settings).

I explored Shopify’s staff permissions, but the closest option available is to give access to "Blog posts and pages", along with "View, Create & Edit Files", which also allows the user to edit pages and other content beyond blogs.

Unfortunately, Shopify doesn’t seem to provide a way to restrict access exclusively to the blog section.

What I’m Looking For:

  • A way to grant blog article management access only (create, edit, and publish blog posts).
  • No access to products, pages, themes, or settings.

What I’ve Tried:

  1. Shopify’s built-in staff permissions → No blog-specific role available.
  2. Third-party blog apps (e.g., DropInBlog, Bloggle) → pretty expensive, and not sure if it will allow me to solve my issue.
  3. Manual workarounds (Google Docs + Admin upload) → The author writes on Google docs, then we have to upload on the Shopify Admin - This works but is inefficient.

Does Anyone has a Solution?

I’d love to hear if there’s:

  • A hidden Shopify setting I might have missed.
  • An app or workaround that allows more granular permissions.
  • Any other solutions others have successfully implemented.

Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help!

Thank you!

Hi @MatthieuForest

You're right, Shopify's built-in staff permissions currently don't allow for restricting access solely to blog management. Since "Blog posts and pages" access includes editing other site pages, but there are other solutions too:

  • Use Google Docs for drafting & assign an admin for publishing.
  • Use Shopify Flow (for Shopify Plus users) - means you can set up workflows that notify an admin when a blog is created, allowing for review before publishing.
  • Consider using some content management apps like Shogun or Bloggle, they might offer more granular permissions, though they come at a cost.

Hope this helps 🙂
