How to set up automatic discounts for up to 3 products?

How to set up automatic discounts for up to 3 products?

Hi,

I am trying to solve the following problem:-

"Buy a particular product and get 20% on the whole cart automatically (except on the product that gets you the discount)"

I used Buy X and Get Y automatic discount rule with the following settings which pretty much does the trick, except I have to add EXACTLY 3 products. How do users get an automatic discount for UPTO 3 products from a particular collection? The discount code should work if the user adds 1, 2 or 3 products.

Hi @Oceedee,

Thank you for getting in touch and for detailing your question here. Unfortunately, I do not believe what you are looking to do is possible with the use of the automatic discounts feature.

The "Buy X, Get Y" automatic discount requires you to enter in exact figure for both the item(s) that activates the discount, and the item(s) that will be discounted as a result. You can, for example, choose to enter in automatic discount rule that allows a discount on one 1 item when another 1 item is added to the cart, or even a discount on 2 items when 1 item is added - however, this means that both items would need to be added to the cart, or at least 2 units of 1 item you've specified. It is not possible to set this discount to apply to any number of items in the cart; the number of items that will be receiving the discount needs to be exact.

I can see why more flexibility when it comes to specifying the rules for automatic discounts would be beneficial, and as such I will be submitting your feedback to our development team. We're always seeking to improve the features we offer and merchant feedback plays a big part in that process. For now, you do have some alternatives; there are plenty of apps on the App Store that offer more customizable discount options. I'd suggest checking out a few of the different apps available to you, but Automatic Discount looks like one that will offer you more flexibility when it comes to setting automated discounts at checkout.

I hope this has helped explain things but please don't hesitate to get back in touch if you have further questions.

Kind regards,

Hi Victor,

Thanks for writing back promptly.

I would assume the problem I am trying to solve would be a very quick update from the development team.

Look forward to having it live as soon as possible!

Hi @Oceedee,

We're always seeking to improve the platform and as the automatic discount feature is a relatively new one, I imagine it will evolve over time to include more functionalities. As mentioned, I have submitted your request to our development team, so thank you again for providing your feedback. I hope some of the apps available prove to be viable alternatives for the meantime.

Kind regards,

Nothing yet, hoping the Shopify Dev team is working on a solution for this.

Hi,

I think if you will also allow more automatic discount at the same time, we can have this problem solved.

Hi @HSSFatima,

As mentioned in posts above, it is not currently possible to have two automatic discounts run at the same time on a store. This is a feature a number of merchants have requested over time and is one our development team is currently considering. We receive requests for hundreds and hundreds of different features and changes to the platform, and as such not all desired changes can be made as quickly as some may like. I have gone ahead and logged your request, however, as generally the more merchants that request an achievable feature, the more likely it is to come to fruition.

In the meantime, you can check out some of the apps I referenced before that expand the discounts functionality. Selly, the app that @Risa referred to, also seems like an appropriate app to consider.

Kind regards,

Can anyone help me?

On my store we are having buy x get y free. In our case, buy two products get one free.

I have set up the discount on Shopify which is working fine, the problem is it's giving customers the most expensive product free! Is there a way of doing it so the customer gets cheapest product free?

Many thanks

Hi @UmbertoG,

Thank you for reaching out. This is strange, as with the Buy X Get Y discount feature, the cheapest eligible product should be the one discounted, and not the most expensive. Would it be possible for you to share the discount's configuration here with us, preferably via a screenshot? It's possible that the discount's settings are incorrect and the more expensive product is being discounted as a result.

Kind regards,

That was a year Ago Victor. Any update since then or are you going to sell me out to a developer for a quick 1% commission?

Hey there,

It's been a couple of years now and the update hasn't been made. We still have to specify the exact amount on Y product. So the discount is not applied to all products if the number of products in the cart doesn't excatly match the one entered in the discount code. A "minimum quantity added to the cart" would be a great solution.

Please fix automatic discounts. It is a bug and glitch. I set up buy 2 get 1 free and everytime I add 2 items to cart it doesn't show the discount until I click on + again. This is clearly a bug and lot of people have been complaining. Please fix.

Yes, you can let customers add 1–3 items and have a trigger product unlock 20% off the rest of the cart (while the trigger stays full-price) with Savify app https://apps.shopify.com/savify.

  1. Click "Create discount".
  2. Check "Order discount".
  3. Click "Add a condition" and pick "Products"; select the trigger item (e.g. The Minimal Snowboard).
  4. Click "Add a condition" again and choose "Unique product count"; set "Less than" to 4 (covers carts of 1, 2, or 3 items).
  5. Set "Discount method" to "Automatic discount".
  6. Set "Order discount value" to 20 %.
  7. In "Discount applies to", choose "Selected products only", and set "Selection behavior" to "Skip this discount for the selected items below" (so the trigger itself isn’t discounted).
  8. Save.

I hope it helps.
