You asked about the problems I was having with (understanding) Shopify. I hardly know where to begin.
1 — The Shopify Payments Payout — Is that like a holding place for payments made by customers? And then I’m supposed to transfer that money to my bank account? I do that each time ?
2 — Taxes — Grrr
I clicked on for getting Shopify Tax because others had recommended it. It sounds like a horrible hassle having to send money each month or quarter to different states (if I should be so fortunate). I understand that Avalara will do all that for $$$ but since I’m just beginning, I’m going to just select Shopify Tax and see how difficult this is. Does this sound do-able?
But — a little while ago, when I logged in, at the bottom of my screen there was a message saying that I hadn’t taken care of setting up a tax management program??? A couple days ago, I purchased some items using my husband’s computer and I also had my daughter purchase something. I thought this would be a good way for me to see how Shopify shows me their accounting of these sales along with my tax obligations. But I can’t find anything in Shopify that will show me this.
Any ideas?
Am I supposed to register with each state now? Before any sales?
Same subject — taxes — I don’t understand the choices — or maybe, I don’t know what is the best choice on how the tax should be charged on my products:
Include in price. (If this — and is this what most do so is the best — I should raise my prices knowing that I will be paying the taxes — kind of like the 15% tip being included in the bill at a restaurant?)
Charge tax for shipping rates
Charge VAT on digital items. (Not doing digital at this time but might later)
Victor, please know how much I appreciate your helping me with this.
I have some other problem areas but this is most pressing. I’m really trying, Victor. I’m just in over my head. I know it’ll be ok but right now, it’s tough.
