How to stop Duplicate Purchase on my Website?

This is something I've noticed on a few of the websites where I buy digital files. I know it can be done because it's powered by Shopify. But, how do you do it? It is necessary to purchase digital files only once. If a customer tries to buy the same file again, the message "an already purchased" appears, with no opportunity to add it to the cart. In my store, I'd like to avoid inadvertent double purchases. I'm not sure how I'm going to accomplish it. It's a fantastic feature. This is something I'd like to include on my website.
